The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures furthers the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, screenings, programs, initiatives, and collections. Welcoming visitors from Los Angeles and around the world, the Museum works in active partnership with motion picture artists and specialists, scholars, staff, and diverse communities to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema, inspiring discourse, connection, joy, and discovery.

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Communications, the Communications Coordinator will support the Communications team in executing their goals and initiatives. We are seeking a well-organized, detail oriented, and adaptable individual who can anticipate the needs of the office and ensure an effective work environment.

You Will:

  • Oversee the Museum’s press email inbox and replying to general/press-related phone and email requests.
  • Maintain project management software (Airtable) with daily updates to keep the team on track.
  • Draft, proofread, and edit documents for accuracy, proper formatting, grammar, and spelling to ensure consistent professional output. This includes press releases, media alerts, museum backgrounders, talking points, event plans, and digital posts.
  • Develop, coordinate, and distribute communication assets across departments for events and announcements.
  • Coordinate photo and video shoots.
  • Do media monitoring and press clip distribution.
  • Assist with special projects (e.g., coordinate event logistics, manage RSVPs, and work museum related events).
  • Directly communicate with domestic and international press in person, phone, and by email.
  • Support the needs of the Communications team (e.g., coordinate and plan meetings, compile reports for follow up, etc).
 
Position Requirements

You Have:

  • A bachelor’s degree with a career interest in public relations.
  • 2+ years of professional experience working in publicity and/or public relations.
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills with demonstrated computer expertise. Experience with Sales Force, Marketing Cloud, Airtable, Critical Mention, and CisionPoint a plus.
  • Experience communicating effectively and clearly both verbally and in writing with special attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work discreetly and professionally with press in high pressure and public appearance situations.
  • Ability to take direction from numerous parties, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to take initiative and approach all tasks with a positive outlook.

  • Flexible schedule as some night and weekend work may be required and may be assigned on short notice.
