Position Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be able to obtain a criminal history, child abuse history, and sex offender history background clearance physical examination clearance, and TB test clearance prior to hire and throughout employment.
  • SAL Family and Community Services requires all employees, including new team members, to be fully-vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine and show acceptable proof of documentation by December 8, 2021. SAL Family and Community Services will consider requests for reasonable accommodation as required under applicable law.
  • High School Diploma. At least one year of previous experience cooking for large groups of 100+. Previous experience working with the Child and Adult Care Food Program and active Food Service Sanitary license are preferred.
  • Effective communicator with ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to follow oral and written instructions in exact detail. 
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Knowledge of materials and methods used in preparation of food in large quantities; knowledge of standard recipes and cooking methods for various breakfasts, lunch and snacks for children. Knowledge of health hazards in food preparation and service, and necessary precautionary measures. Knowledge of food menus, values, relative costs, and portion control. Ability to cook and/or prepare and distribute vended food on a large scale. 
  • Experience in Microsoft Office software such as Microsoft Excel and Word, and other basic computer applications.
  • Visual acuity within professionally determined normal ranges, with correction if needed. Must be free of communicable diseases. Regularly required to remain in a stationary position while standing or moving around a kitchen, service, or storage area, move or traverse, and use hands, fingers, and vision to operate and handle kitchen utensils. The employee must be able to lift 50 pounds. Corrected vision and hearing aids may be used to have capacity for normal range required for seeing/hearing children, greeting visitors, answering phones, and interacting with others. This position works indoors.
 
Description

Summary:

The Kitchen Coordinator provides daily meals to children attending Skip-a-Long Child Development Center working from menus or instructions to perform day-to-day operations involved in serving of meals and snacks and coordinates menus and various cooking assignments. The employee receives assignments from the supervisor who defines objectives, priorities and deadlines, and assists the employee with unusual situations that do not have clear precedents.

Shift:

M-F 7:30am-3:30pm (20 minute paid break)

*$250 sign on bonus paid out after 90 days of employment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilties include the following:

  • Portions and distributes breakfast, catered lunch, and snacks for the children and staff
  • Operates standard kitchen equipment and utensils such as microwave ovens and ice machines.
  • Participate in the cleaning of kitchen, refrigerators, and storerooms to meet sanitation standards
  • Oversees and aids in the proper handling, packaging, and storage of food stuffs; meets deadlines for food service
  • Purchases foods and plans menus in accordance with CACFP guidelines
  • Complies with local, state and national standards for quality as designated by the agency
  • Washes and sanitizes all dishes and infant bottles daily.
  • Complete record keeping and monthly temperature monitoring for refrigerator and freezers.
