The Research Director will report to the Executive Vice President, Network Services and will be responsible for coordinating the research of the organization; supervising the research staff; leveraging OFN’s CDFI member data and secondary data sources to produce valuable reports and publications for multiple audiences.

 

This is a great opportunity to research, analyze, and produce new reports and publications that will amplify the impact of CDFIs and help attract capital – both private and public – into the CDFI industry.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a clear vision and strategy for broadening and deepening OFN’s capacity to inform and influence public and private investments in CDFIs.
  • Proactively identify opportunities that support the needs and ideas of OFN and the CDFI industry.
  • Manage, guide, and supervise research staff on projects, core operations, and organizational initiatives, including setting clear direction and performance expectations, building team skills, and assessing progress.
  • Produce valuable reports and publications for multiple audiences by leveraging OFN member data and secondary data sources.
  • Work with OFN’s investment team to capture risk and portfolio management data to assist with internal revenue forecasting and investor reporting requirements.
  • Draft sections of reports and other research products and present findings and analysis of research in a wide range of venues.
  • Maintain a public presence as an expert on a variety of topics related to CDFIs, including participating in events.
  • Maintain strong collaborative relationships across diverse institutions to represent OFN among public, private, and academic leaders.
  • Maintain database management on numerous internal and external relational and designs and builds relational databases that streamline OFN’s analytic processes; develop geographic information systems (GIS) in support of the CDFI Coverage Map and OFN’s other spatial analyses.
  • Advise OFN leadership and other departments on CDFI trends and issues.
 
Position Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or 7-10 years of work experience in lieu of a degree; graduate degree a plus.
  • At least 7+ year of relevant work experience.
  • Excellent computer and database management skills. Proficiency with Word, Excel, Access, and advanced experience with a statistical package required (e.g., SAS, SPSS, R, STATA)
  • Experience with geographic information systems and interactive data visualization software required (e.g., ArcGIS, Tableau, R).
  • Extensive experience with quantitative research methods, including: advanced statistical analysis; data collection, and management.
  • Experience effectively managing projects and project staff, prioritizing work to meet organizational goals and deadlines required. Serves as a collaborative team player who possess humility and willingness to lean in all areas of OFN’s work.
  • 3+ years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
  • Smart seeker of knowledge who has the ability and thrives on creating and developing new strategies, products, and programs at OFN.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including interacting and partnering with a diverse range of internal and external constituents, key stakeholders, and audiences, as well as the ability to effectively communicate and present financial performance and expectations.
  • Effective written communication skills.
  • Must possess a strong passion for, understanding of, and commitment to OFN’s mission, vision, and values, who is confident and serves as an advocate in driving capital into low-income communities.
  • Light to moderate travel required (15% of time).
  • Job involves normal physical requirements for an office position.
  • No extraordinary physical requirements beyond ability to travel.
