At a Glance

Geneva College is seeking an Intermediate Systems Analyst who is excited about the opportunity to build systems integrations to improve the student, faculty, and staff experiences across multiple on-premises and Cloud Hosted information systems. 

The Intermediate Systems Analyst contributes to the success of Geneva College in the following areas: 

  • Mission Support: Contribute to the work of the Strategic Plan as defined by the Board of Directors and the President’s Cabinet, under the direction of the VP of Information and Technology. 
  • IT Team: Engaged member of the Application Services Team (3 staff members) focusing on team operational improvements, development environment enhancements, peer design reviews, and team project reviews. 
  • Academic Program: Support the technology systems and components related to academics, from registration to book selection, Learning Management, and program assessment. 
  • Student Information System: Support the student information system (Jenzabar) including the range of associated integrated products in use across the College. 
  • Cybersecurity: Develop and maintain secure computer programs and integrations. 
  • Institutional Tech & Data:  Participate in Business Process design and associated technology architecture assessment. 
  • Automation & Partnerships: Participate in identifying and evaluating opportunities to automate regular College business functions including prospective vendor relationships. 
  • Cloud Strategy: Participate in cloud design and associated technology architecture assessment. 

 

This position reports directly to the Director of IT Application Services and provides experienced requirements definition, programming capabilities, system integration development, and maintenance and support services to college departments and offices.

REMOTE WORK 

Generally, this position may schedule up to 2 days of remote work per week.  This is consistent with our general framework for faculty who are required to be on campus at 25 hours per week.

Full Job Description

Summary of Responsibilities: Under the general direction of the Director of Application Services and senior staff, this intermediate level position provides experienced process and system requirements definition, analytical and/or programming capabilities, computer application development and/or maintenance, and support services to meet client IT and business needs.

  1. Provide service to IT client community, faculty, staff and students, while protecting the integrity and confidentiality of all data and information through physical and electronic measures.
  2. Evaluate and document client needs/business processes both operational and financial, including current process analysis and proposed revisions to optimize business processes.
  3. Assist with the design and documentation of system functional requirements in formats to facilitate the development of deliverables such as Request for Proposals and/or Information, custom development efforts, project-based planning documents such as scope documents and client services communication.
  4. Work with IT staff, clients and/or vendors to evaluate, develop, and implement solutions including both packaged system solutions and custom development applications options.
  5. Assure quality of information through business case and application-level testing; validate test results to initial business needs.
  6. Work with IT staff, clients and/or vendor staff to deploy production applications.
  7. Design and document system level, IT operations level, and end user level procedures to support business applications.
  8. Provide ongoing troubleshooting, support, and maintenance of production applications.
  9. Highly motivated to apply process improvement (BPI) to increase product and service quality to achieve business objectives.

  1. Business Requirements and Process Analysis:
    1. Independently analyzes and revises existing system logic difficulties.
    2. Develops user procedure manuals.
    3. Makes suggestions for problem solutions or software enhancements.
    4. Partners with business process experts to learn and understand problems with software.
    5. Conducts business requirements reviews and independently formulates logical statements of business requirements.
    6. Participates in joint application development sessions.
  2. Systems Analysis:
    1. Conducts requirements reviews and independently formulates logical statements of business requirements and translates these to technical/functional specifications for use by programmers/coders.
    2. Analyzes and revises existing system logic difficulties for basic to moderately complex programs.
    3. Creates prototype designs for basic to moderately complex programs.
    4. Writes detailed technical specifications from which programs will be written.
    5. Develops system architecture/user manuals.
  3. Systems Integration:
    1. Conducts requirements reviews and independently formulates logical statements of business integration requirements and translates these to technical/functional specifications for use by programmers/coders.
    2. Builds basic to moderately complex specifications and changes with users, systems professionals, and external organizations.
    3. Define system interface capabilities or requirements with other systems or vendors.
    4. Analyzes and revises existing system logic difficulties for basic to moderately complex application programming interfaces (API’s).
  4. Deployment/Maintenance/Operations Analysis
    1. Evaluates and documents operational performance as directed.
    2. Diagnoses moderately complex to complex issues/incidents as directed.
    3. Research and gather data/information, analyze information, and propose alternative solutions for moderately complex to complex business systems or processes.
    4. Completes service requests/problem resolution for moderately complex to complex business systems or processes.
    5. Additionally, this position may be required to maintain a standby status as part of a rotation within the team. This requires 24 hours per day, 7 days per week availability during the standby period. The frequency varies based upon the number of colleagues in the rotation.
  5. Hosted Services Support
    1. Works with vendor(s) for day-to-day systems operations support including related system database(s).
    2. Reviews systems operations including software updates and upgrades, database server and instance maintenance including backup operations.
  6. Report Writing
    1. Proficient knowledge of the most common features of report writers and query tools such as Sybase Infomaker and Microsoft PowerBI Desktop.
  7. Programming/Development:
    1. Modify and/or write program code as needed.
    2. Test and debug program modifications for correctness.
    3. Assist in Peer reviews.
  8. Project Management
    1. Works with project manager to define tasks and create teamwork plans with moderate supervision on moderately to complex projects.
    2. Delegates work to others and monitors progress.
    3. Identifies issues affecting work progress and recommends solutions.
    4. Communicates schedule variances and potential scope changes in status reports.
    5. Controls project costs, communicating any project-related expenses and recommends ways to control costs.
    6. Manages small projects including Project scope, statement(s) of work, MS Project plan(s), estimates, and communications.
  9. Educational/Knowledge Requirements:
    1. Completes on-going training on-the-job, through courses, self-study, certifications and/or advanced degrees to maintain and enhance technical and business capabilities.
    2. Demonstrates understanding of the fundamental tools and concepts of one of the information technology professional disciplines (i.e., Applications, Business Analysis, Development, etc.) and applies that understanding to make independent practical contributions to IT work within Application Services.
  10. Miscellaneous:
    1. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. Minimum:
    1. Education/Certification: 4-year academic degree includes courses in computer programming, systems analysis, system development, or systems engineering with four years analysis/programming job experience or at least seven years analysis/programming job experience without a degree.
    2. Skill/Abilities:
    3. Understand the principles of systems analysis and programming.
    4. Understand relational database concepts and constructs.
    5. Experience with client server, web and web services application development.
    6. Experience with enterprise DBMS, including basic system administration.
    7. Possess strong trouble shooting and problem-solving skills.
    8. Ability to communicate effectively with end users.
    9. Christian Commitment: Eligible candidates must be a thoughtful and articulate Christian and an active member of a Protestant evangelical Christian church. Preference will be given to candidates who support and have an articulate understanding of the Reformed faith. The individual must understand and support the College’s “Foundational Concepts of Christian Education” by expressing an evangelical Christian profession of faith and demonstrate the ability to integrate a Christian perspective in their work.
  2. Preferred:
    1. Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or similar.
    2. Experience: Two years of administrative computing support within higher education.
    3. Skill/Abilities: Prior experience working with MS SQL Server, MS SSIS, MS web programming and web services programming:
      1. Ability to program using MS SQL Server, C#.
      2. Demonstrated experience with Web Services API development using MS Visual Studio, ASP.NET Core, MVC, Entity Framework Core.
      3. Demonstrated experience with MS SSIS Package Development.
      4. Demonstrated experience with ETL software (e.g., Boomi).
