TITLE: Research Manager: Center for Policing Equity

LOCATION: New Haven

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Research Manager is a role to bridge CPE’s solid science with the adjacent research work at/through our Co-founder and CEO’s affiliation with Yale University. This position will track Science and research projects that connect to both CPE and Yale and ensure synergy and shared understanding on the part of key stakeholders in both organizations. This coordination is intended to increase effectiveness of the delivery of CPE’s mission by increasing efficiencies in the scientific and writing processes, especially in the interplay between the two entities.,

We are looking for a Research Manager who shares our passion to join our team. The role of Research Manager is critical to the broader work of CPE.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

CPE/Yale Research Lab and Project Manager

  • Operationalize, execute, and oversee a variety of research activities and lab management responsibilities
  • Coordinate regular meetings of the CPE/Yale Research Lab under direction of CPE CEO/ Principal Investigator Dr. Phillip Atiba Goff
  • Manage the Lab’s on-campus presence (including offices) and contribute to the intellectual community of the Lab by modeling preparedness, curiosity, and active participation in meetings
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the research lab and advise the Principal Investigator and CPE senior researchers on ways to ensure optimal collaboration and functioning of the lab
  • Recruit, train, and supervise research assistants, and ensure high standards of conduct among lab members
  • Manage administration of experimental procedures with human subjects
  • Manage submission of IRB applications and IRB-related processes
  • Assist in bookkeeping and preparing accounting reports, in consultation with finance colleagues
  • Manage program funds and reimbursements
  • Balance project support while maintaining internal administrative workflow and task organization

Serve as CPE Liaison

  • Act as a liaison between Yale University offices and CPE staff members and teams
  • Provide and coordinate research support to the Principal Investigator and senior researchers
  • Facilitate communication between researchers, research assistants, and staff
  • Develop and coordinate center events, including logistics, advertising, and financial management; and support senior researchers in applications to external events and convenings
  • Establish and maintain responsive relationships with faculty partners, university management, research contacts in the HRPP office (IRB), and financial administrative associates

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Sociology, Education, Public Policy, Political Science, Ethnic Studies, Gender and Women’s Studies, or related field
  • Prior experience managing or leading social science research projects
  • Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative research methods including experimentation, interviewing, and conducting analyses
  • Research experience and interest in areas of policing, crime, race/ethnicity, gender, structural inequality, political science, sociology, criminology, or psychology
  • Preferred one-year or more experience in conducting computer, web-based, and/or interpersonal experiments
  • Excellent interpersonal, managerial, and communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects, exceptional organizational/time management skills, self-motivation, and attention to detail
  • Ability to demonstrate collaborative and intercultural communication and capacity for engaging with diverse audiences including academic research collaborators, students, and law enforcement
  • Technological proficiency and capacity to learn new software and technological processes
  • Capacity to balance multiple projects and adapt to a dynamic work environment, while independently maintaining administrative workflow
  • Proven success in the above responsibilities as demonstrated in past work experience
