Description

WORK OBJECTIVE

Under the direction of the Information Technology Director, this position is responsible for managing technologies including the City's desktop computer environment and varying responsibilities within the City's server environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provides intermediate level of technical support and problem-solving assistance, consulting with all users within the City, performing in-depth research, analysis, and problem diagnosis, consulting with internal and external technical staff/vendors related to hardware, software, and system functionality specifications.
  • Performs Help Desk support and troubleshooting for network-related, software, and hardware issues, while keeping track of responsibilities and tasks within a ticketing system.
  • Responsible for configuring and setting-up PC workstations including image creation and maintenance, user/email accounts, and access permissions to City applications and data; procurement of software, hardware, and other IT-related resources; website modifications and updates; mobile device setups including procurement of devices and configuration of management software; and training of end-users.
  • Assists in analyzing, configuring, maintaining, troubleshooting, and modifying Cisco IP telephone system programming.
  • Assists with the system operation, support of, and performance monitoring of VMWare VSphere virtual servers, physical SANs, AS400, and other systems.
  • Assists in the analysis, coordination, implementation, and modification of system security measures, software updates, and disaster recovery in order to protect the City's hardware, software and data.
  • Assists with creating and maintaining documentation relating to computer hardware assets, troubleshooting steps, common resolutions, etc.
  • Recommends technology changes/brand standards by staying current in the industry.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or appropriate discipline is required with a minimum of 3 years of progressive and directly applicable experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Exceptional knowledge and hands-on experience with current desktop operating systems software.
  • Knowledge and experience with Windows Servers, DNS, Active Directory, DFS.
  • Knowledge and experience supporting VMWare and various SAN technologies/providers.
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Exchange a plus.
  • Familiarity with I-Series operating systems and applications.
  • Availability for regular/rotational on-call hours and/or weekend tasks.
  • MCITP/MCSA preferred.
  • ITIL v3/4 Foundation preferred.
  • Possession of a valid state of Florida Driver's License.
  • Must be able to secure and maintain a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Clearance to include approval for controlled access to protected information.

Exceptions to the minimum qualifications must be reviewed by the Human Resources Director and approved by the City Manager prior to job offer.

  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
  • Ability to follow complex written and oral instructions.
  • Self-motivated with a desire to learn and develop professionally and to teach others.

ENVIRONMENTAL & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work is performed in an office environment with typical office hazards and low to moderate noise levels.
  • Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact.
  • Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of officer related equipment, such as, but not limited to telephone, computer, calculator, copier and fax machine.
  • Required to be sufficiently mobile to respond to calls at all supported locations and move heavy computer equipment and peripherals unassisted when necessary.
  • Required to have sufficient mobility to perform duties in small spaces involving crouching, stooping, kneeling and physical ability to perform tasks requiring physical strength and finer dexterity.
  • Intermittent sitting, standing, stooping, crouching, walking, lifting of light and moderately heavy objects.
