Position Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • SAL Family and Community Services requires all employees, including new team members, to be fully-vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine and show acceptable proof of documentation by December 8, 2021.   • Associate’s Degree in Business or related field preferred. High School Diploma is required. Previous experience of at least 1 year in an office setting is required with billing experience of at least one year preferred.
  • Effective communicator with ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, board of directors, and the general public.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, Adobe Reader, and other basic computer applications. Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and solve basic hardware and software problems.
  • A collaborative and flexible style, with a strong service mentality; need to be seen as a team player committed to lifelong learning; hands-on employee with integrity and a desire to work in a dynamic, demonstrated commitment to the social sector with a passion for the mission is essential. Maintain high attention to detail. Ability to proofread and make edits as necessary. Highly developed organizational skills and ability to multi-task are required.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to remain in a stationary position, move or traverse, operate computers, use hands/fingers, and position self to the ground and then to a standing position and vice versa or from sitting to standing position and vice versa. The employee must be able to lift 25 pounds. Corrected vision and hearing aids may be used to have capacity for normal range required for seeing/hearing visitors, answering phones, and interacting with others. This position works indoors.


The Office and Billing Coordinator performs bookkeeping and accounting tasks related to billing, maintaining home childcare provider records, and providing home childcare provider enrollment analysis. The employee receives assignments from staff; however, the supervisor defines objectives, priorities and deadlines and assists the employee with unusual situations that do not have clear precedents.

Examples of Essential Functions include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Create a positive first impression and deliver excellent customer service by greeting all visitors and respond to inquiries.
  • Receive, sort, log, send mail using metering, and distribute mail for office in a timely and confidential manner.
  • Prepare letters, charts, reports, memoranda
  • Proofread emails, outgoing marketing and messaging
  • Maintain accurate and current records manually and with Microsoft Word and/or Excel.
  • Produce and submit various monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual reports.
  • Monitor inventory levels of program supplies and order supplies as necessary.
  • Assist in recruitment of new home childcare providers.
  • Assist families and home childcare providers in completing state paperwork to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Oversee and finalize state and agency billing processes for home childcare providers for the State of Illinois Home Child Care Network
  • Answer home childcare provider inquiries regarding state billing
  • Ensure that all state billings are sent in on time and accurately while following company, state, and federal policies
  • Produce financial and operational reports related to collection and billing in a timely manner
