Assistant Director of Nursing/ Infection Prevention

Position Requirements


  1. Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing: postgraduate study and/or experience in geriatrics is desirable
  2. Must be licensed to practice as an RN in the State of Wisconsin
  3. Must possess competence in supervision, leadership and communication skills
  4. Must have the ability to plan, develop and implement nursing policies
  5. Must be organized; self-motivated and have ability work independently
  6. Must be able to make decisions in an emergency situation such as fire, tornado, change of resident condition
  7. Must understand the legal aspects of nursing under the nurse practice act of the State of Wisconsin
  8. Must be physically able to waist lift up to a maximum of 30# with frequent waist lifting of objects weighing up to 10#. Must be able to push objects with a maximum effort of 25#.


Working Conditions:

  1. May be subject to bruises and scratches from residents striking out.
  2. May be exposed to infections and odors.
  3. Involved in tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or mucous membranes on a daily routine basis.
  4. May be required to work more than eight hours in a day
  5. 40 hours per week and on call every other weekend
  6. Cover shifts as necessary
  7. Scheduled possibly every other weekend and 1-2 second shifts a month



  1. Supervise personnel providing direct resident care
  2. AIMS assessments
  3. Consents
  4. Conducting infection Control In-Services
  5. Restorative Programs
  6. Discipline nursing personnel
  7. Educate and in-service nursing personnel
  8. Assist in orientation of new employees
  9. Train new nurses
  10. Flu/Pneumococcal tracking/program (residents
  11. Staff Flu vaccine program
  12. Scheduling of all nursing personnel to ensure appropriate staff coverage to meet State and Federal standards
  13. To ensure that resident’s rights are observed and respected through delivery of quality nursing care
  14. Evaluate and ensure proper infection control techniques are used (peri-care /hand washing) audits
  15. Monitor and document infection control information according to State and Federal guidelines
  16. Attend and contribute to quality Assurance Committee and Total plan of care sessions
  17. Resident and Employee TB program
  18. Employee hepatitis program
  19. In-Service all nursing staff monthly
  20. Attend and participate in monthly physical and chemical restraints, pain, and weight and skin meetings
  21. Attend Medicare meetings
  22. Pre-admission Screening
  23. Ensure admission process is completed accurately and timely
  24. Monitor and ensure fall program is followed, conduct follow up
  25. Ensure investigations of unknown origins are complete and followed up on
  26. Back up MDS Coordinator
  27. Prepare and be involved in State and Federal Surveys
