Description

JOB PURPOSE:

 

The Children’s Coordinator, under general direction of the Lead Case Manager, develops and provides innovative youth services and activities to children 0-18 years of age for the families of the Fairweather Family Lodge. Provide a safe, educational, fun, and trauma-informed environment for families of the program to grow together. Children’s Coordinator assists families with parenting skills, techniques and modeling positive behaviors as well as case management services to address any other needs.

 
Position Requirements

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Research, develop and execute innovative children’s services and activities for Fairweather Family Lodge families:

  • Utilize 40 Developmental Assets to develop appropriate activities that meet the social, cognitive, developmental level, and interest level of the program’s families.
  • Identifies, organizes, and implements regularly scheduled activities, groups, and outings on an ongoing basis for children of a variety of ages: i.e. Mighty Munchkins for children ages 1 to 5 years and Power Hour After School Program for school-aged children.
  • Coordinate activities by means of detailed monthly calendar distributed to families.
  • Work with outside agencies/organizations to bring in activities and services (internships included.)
  • Completes planning and executing of all holiday camps for children: i.e. Spring Break Camp, Summer Camp, etc.

 

Demonstrates ability to work as an effective member of a multi-disciplinary team in a trauma informed environment to provide exceptional services to the children and families of the program.

  • Document weekly and emergency case notes; submit comprehensive client files, update charts as needed. Prepare necessary incident reports.
  • Participate in weekly staffing’s to ensure proper services are identified by the multidisciplinary team; including Case Managers and Therapists, and to identify children that may need 1:1 services.
  • Collaborate with Parenting Case Manager to assist in providing modeling of appropriate interactions with children and appropriate parenting skills for mothers of program.
  • Advocate for and facilitate clients’ access to community resources; school programs, vocational opportunities or services, recreational activities and relevant mental health services and benefits; assist clients to develop natural resources and make contact with social support networks. Assist clients with entitlements.

 

Develop appropriate trust-based relationships with the children of community. Empower children of community to find their voice and develop a feeling of safety around adults, while developing a positive internal sense of self. Encourage children in their individual areas of interest and talents.

  • Evaluate clients’ individual needs. Complete monthly service plans with clients including short and long term goals; provide follow-up and evaluation of goals. Coordinate and monitor services, including comprehensive tracking of client activities in relation to service plan.
  • Monitor quality and effectiveness of client services. Work with outside agencies such as CPS, Family or Drug Court, Probation, etc. to ensure clients’ success. Provide on-going program evaluation and recommendations to the Program Director for continuous growth and quality.

 

Identify and provide appropriate crisis intervention services as necessary; make an immediate assessment to respond according to accepted crisis intervention methods and techniques, and coordinate other services as appropriate.

  • Provide needed life skills training on a one-on-one or group basis. Assist clients in developing a budget and monitor payment of necessary bills. Assist with problem solving, social skills, parenting skills and behavior modification.

 

Assist with administrative duties such as:

  • Provide Supervision to Direct Care Staff.
  • Document weekly, complete critical incident reports as needed, update internal data tracking weekly, and complete necessary grant reporting.
  • Accurately input into HMIS and file documentation in appropriate client files.
  • Organizes and maintains inventory of children activities supplies.
  • Provides order requests for supplies needed.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Education or related field. Master’s Degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE: 3+ years’ experience working directly with youth, 3+ years in a social service agency, 3+ years in a customer service focused environment. Experience with mental health and/or a homeless population a plus.

ATTENDANCE: Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in the employer’s sole discretion.

LICENSES: Drivers License with clear record.

VEHICLE: Must have daily use of a vehicle without prior notice.

OTHER: Must be available and willing to travel to various locations and with such frequency as the business need dictates. Must be available and willing to work nights, weekends and holidays as required to meet business needs. Must not pose a direct threat or significant risk of substantial harm to the safety or health of himself/herself or others.
