Culinary Intern 

Description

The Culinary Intern moves through the various outlets and concepts to gain experience in all dining experiences offered at the property. During these rotations, assigned job duties will vary based on both location and shift. These duties include but are not limited to prep, plating, baking, grilling, blending, mixing, and cleaning.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Comply with all applicable laws and regulations pertaining to food handling, storing, and preparation.
  • Cook and plate food items according to proper procedures and recipes.
  • Prepare items quickly in accordance with production and portion requirements and quality standards.
  • Maintain all necessary food reporting and labeling to ensure product quality.
  • Responsible for getting food preparation areas stocked and organized prior to guest service.
  • Responsible for cleaning up food preparation areas and properly storing unused food items.
  • Keep Restaurant Sous Chef informed of all food and product inventory as necessary.
  • Wash dishes and kitchen equipment as directed.
  • Perform all duties in a safe manner.
  • Keep walk-ins and dry storage areas neat and clean.
  • Assist the culinary team with inventory and daily ordering sheets.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 
Position Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess the following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Technical Skills: We We prefer at least 1 year (or previous equivalent internship experience) of culinary experience and knowledge working with various kitchen equipment, food items, and a fast-paced kitchen environment
  • Customer Service and Professionalism: Proven experience serving as a role model and setting the standard for all staff to maintain high-quality and consistent customer service.
  • Problem Solving, Quality Control, and Priority Assessment: Must evaluate current practices and processes; immediately recognize potential areas of conflict; and suggest ways to improve current business methods and services provided.
  • Communication: Commitment to details both verbally and non-verbally and ability to encourage cooperative and consistent levels of communication with the kitchen staff, front-end staff and management. Must understand instructions, read written company information and communicate with little or no additional direction.
  • Interpersonal Relationships: Ability to adapt to different personalities of guests, staff and outside vendors without losing focus. Must possess high professional ethics and avoid extreme familiarity or conflicts with others.
  • Conflict Management: Capacity to recognize problems when they arise and be able to resolve them appropriately by using good judgement, tact, and initiative according to company policy and procedure. Requires unbiased communication skills to handle all types of conflicts that will occur at all levels of supervision and the ability to negotiate effectively.
  • Perform General Physical Activities: Ability to perform physical activities in a variety of environmental conditions that require moderate to maximum strength including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, handling materials.
  • Flexibility: Must be available to work overtime when needed, assist with the workload of others, and perform other duties as assigned.
