Geneva College is a Christian liberal arts college in the reformed tradition located about 50 miles north of Pittsburgh. Founded in 1848 by the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America, Geneva has majors in both liberal arts and pre-professional programs, and offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees. Geneva's faculty provide a challenging education that prepares students for careers, for further education, and for life. In all fields of study, students are challenged to explore the implications of the Christian faith on their discipline. Geneva has approximately 1,350 students enrolled in its various programs taught by its faculty of nearly 70 members. Description

Summary of Responsibilities: As a member of the Geneva College Physical Plant Department, the Housekeeper cleans an assigned building or set of buildings on a regular basis during Fall and Spring semesters. Team cleaning of various buildings may occur during other times. Also included are set-ups for events and related coordination. Duties vary somewhat depending on weather and season.

 

Essential Responsibilities: (These essential responsibilities are those the individual must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.)

  1. General Tasks
    1. Cleans bathrooms, offices, classrooms, and hallways. Empties trash and cleans windows and chalkboards.
    2. Makes minor maintenance repairs or identifies and refers specialized needs to Physical Plant supervision.
    3. Dusts, sweeps, and mops.
    4. Cleans kitchen areas, lounges, and laundry areas, if applicable.
    5. Sets up for events including moving of furniture. Places decorative features and table linens.
    6. Coordinates what work is done by student labor for cleaning or for setups.
    7. Performs related duties as required.
  2. General Knowledge:
    1. Ongoing growth in the knowledge of custodial/ housekeeping practices and procedures, operation of floor-cleaning equipment such as buffers, the operation of cleaning equipment and use of cleaning chemicals, minor maintenance techniques and the safe use of cleaning materials and equipment.

  4. Lifestyle: The College considers adherence to the Bible’s teaching on life-style issues to be paramount to the College’s Christian witness. If the College determines that an employee is regularly and in a continuing pattern of sin related to the employee’s lifestyle, the College will advise the employee to remove himself/herself from the lifestyle that stands in opposition to the College’s historical confessions and the Bible. The College will consider whether or not the Employee sufficiently exhibits, in its sole discretion, repentance unto faith and obedience with accompanying change in lifestyle situation (please reference Section 7.10 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement).

 

Job Requirements - Labor:

  1. General: Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed or are able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations to safely perform the essential responsibilities of the job.
  2. Physical: Should be able to perform the following and similar physical demands in completing work tasks: Constantly walking, regularly climbing, constantly stooping, constantly reaching, regularly pushing, regularly feeling, occasionally crawling, occasionally crouching, regularly lifting, regularly pulling, constantly standing, kneeling, regularly carrying, occasionally handling, occasionally talking, constantly hearing, constantly seeing, occasionally sitting. Able to regularly lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds.
  3. Confidentiality: Individuals must recognize that management of data, including personal information, grades, budgets, programs, and policies is necessary to the operation of the College. Such information must be kept private and confidential for the protection of the College and to obey Federal and/or State laws. Should there be doubt as to whether a certain matter is to be protected, it should be discussed with your supervisor before making a disclosure.
  4. Mental: Must be able to reason, analyze, prioritize, conceptualize, make judgments, and solve problems.

 

Qualifications:

  1. Minimum:
    1. Education/Certification: High school diploma or GED
    2. Experience: One or more years of custodial experience
    3. Skills/Abilities: Possess a basic knowledge of principles and practices of custodial work, supplies and equipment. Demonstrates customer service principles of hospitality and professionalism. Ability to organize work corresponding to written or verbal instructions that may include floor plans or spreadsheets.
    4. Christian Commitment: Eligible candidates must be a thoughtful and articulate Christian and an active member of a Protestant evangelical Christian church. Preference will be given to candidates who support and have an articulate understanding of the Reformed faith. The individual must understand and support the College’s “Foundational Concepts of Christian Education” by expressing an evangelical Christian profession of faith and demonstrate the ability to integrate a Christian perspective in their work.
  2. Preferred:
    1. Custodial experience in a higher education setting or school setting.
    2. Two or more years of custodial experience and a solid knowledge of principles and practices of custodial work, supplies, and equipment.
    3. Experience with setups for events.
