Salary: $120k - $160k Per Annum

 

General Summary

The Vice President, Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) is responsible for planning, prioritizing, implementing, and maintaining Environmental, Health & Safety goals and initiatives across the company. Combining best practices in risk management, safety, environmental governance, health, and financial methodologies, the VP EHS will support Peak and its Operating Companies’ strategic goals by setting Key Performance Indicators and providing accountability to the Companies’ goals.

  • The Vice President, Environmental, Health & Safety takes a leadership role in reducing EHS risk through compliance with federal, state and local laws and industry regulations (such as OSHA, EPA, NEFPA, PHMSA, NESC etc.) which is vital to the continued success and profitability of the Operating Companies.
  • The Vice President, Environmental, Health & Safety will advise Safety Managers on strategic implications of mandatory rules, laws, regulations, and best practices related to Safety, Environmental, and Health compliance.
  • Responsible for the smooth and cost-effective operation of the Operating Company Safety departments and providing consultation to Peak and its Operating Company leadership on consistent policies, procedures and best practices, training, budget, EHS metrics and overall EHS compliance. 
  • Takes a leadership role in supporting the Peak EHS culture that enables all employees to perform in accordance with our objectives and core values.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manages the filing of EHS legal and regulatory documents and monitors compliance with relevant laws and regulations related to Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS).
  • Provides oversight of all EHS management and related activities, and assures a smoothly functioning, efficient organization by implementing consistent policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Leads EHS M&A due diligence and subsequent integration.
  • Reviews and provides strategic direction on EHS requirements, compliance, and policies necessitated by customer contracts, new opportunities, and in new jurisdictions.
  • Integrates consistent policies, procedures, and practices into existing and future Operating Companies, where applicable, within a prescribed timeline.
  • Monitors and evaluates Peak and its Operating Companies safety performance related to required compliance with governmental, community, client, operational support stakeholders rules and guidelines.
  • Monitors and evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of Peak and its Operating Companies’ EHS compliance programs, policies, and procedures, with reference to key metrics and performance data.
  • Keeps the CEO and the platform informed on the EHS condition of the Operating Companies and on all the important factors influencing the safety compliance and health of the organization as a whole.
  • Working with team members at all levels to incorporate the value of benchmarking data along with other possible program enhancements including safety mentoring and sharing of best practices from a safety leadership perspective.
  • Informs the CEO and executive team about trends, issues, problems and activities in order to facilitate policy-making.  Recommends, and drafts proposed policy positions.
  • Manages program quality and organizational stability through development and implementation of new standards and controls, systems and procedures, and performs regular evaluation.
  • Assists the President of each Operating Company, while providing guidance to the Safety Managers who manage the consistent policies, procedures and practices on a daily basis. 
  • Directs the management, collection, and reporting of data regarding incident response and planning, and the overall investigation requirements of safety, environmental, health, security and quality breaches.
  • Sets policy and provides strategic direction on the investigation of EHS incidents, including necessary documentation, and provides support and assistance with legal matters as necessary.
  • Maintains subcontractor statement of qualification (SOQ) compliance and, manages the EHS requirements for any subcontractors working with and for Peak and its Operating Companies.
  • Works with the CEO and leadership team to develop long-term strategic goals and mitigate anticipated and unanticipated risks.
  • Promotes programs and services that are produced in a cost-effective manner, employing economy while maintaining an acceptable level of safety, health, and environmental compliance.
  • Representing the platform in a professional manner for civic and industry associations at all levels.
 
Position Requirements

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Ability to define EHS goals, benchmarks, and design programs to reach Company EHS goals.
  • Ability to motivate people around a common set of values and goals.
  • Ability to assess EHS performance throughout the platform and make recommendations for improvement when needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain professional EHS communications and compliance at all levels.
  • Ability to relate and communicate with anyone from entry level personnel to corporate professionals.
  • Ability to develop and lead a team of professionals, while providing strategic guidance, and holding the team accountable to defined goals, job duties, and values.
  • M&A Due Diligence and Integration.
  • Problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to establish departmental budgets and track adherence.
  • Ability to define and implement EHS statistics and metric reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability of implementing consistent policies and procedures across several operating entities or divisions.
  • Demonstrable expertise and experience in the direction and management of incident investigations, performing Root Cause Analysis, and implementing corrective action.
  • Willingness and ability to travel and work in diverse jurisdictions, and with diverse groups.

 

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Ten or more years of construction industry related experience in an executive level role.
  • EHS plan design, analysis and implementation experience.
  • Experience with implementing or monitoring all legal compliance programs and reporting.
  • Experience working with a high performing team establishing a strategic plan and the execution of action items.
  • Managed the development and implementation of consistent policies and procedures across multiple operating entities.
  • Demonstrated teamwork working with and leading other professionals toward a common vision.
  • Adherence to and promotion of a common set of values.
