Share Email Opening Title Transportation Heavy Equipment Operator  Salary $46,411 - $57,550   Position Requirements Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: High School Diploma or GED required; and Five (5) year experience operating heavy construction equipment, such as trucks, bulldozers, backhoes, loaders, and trailers; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Additional Requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Other certifications may be required upon employment. Requires a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The functions listed below are those that represent most of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary. Operates gasoline and diesel powered automotive and heavy equipment, light to medium duty trucks, tractors, mowers, lifts, excavators, packers, rollers, skid steers, and other various machines, tools, and power equipment. Loads heavy equipment and transports material using lowboys or trailers. Loads, hauls, and dumps trash. Cuts grass and brush. Loads gravel, dirt, and sand with mechanical loader. Operates sand spreader during snow and ice conditions. Operates assigned equipment in the maintenance and repair of City roads, ROWs, drainage systems, etc. Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards Operates a city vehicle and or equipment; conducts pre- and post-trip inspections including checking all fluids, gauges, lighting, mirrors, tires, body damage, seats and seatbelts, and cleanliness of assigned vehicle. Conducts general maintenance tasks necessary to keep machinery, equipment, and tools in operable condition. Maintains inventory of equipment, parts and supplies: initiates orders materials and equipment needed for each job; conducts routine safety inspections on equipment; advises supervisor of needed repairs. Ensures compliance with all applicable code, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures ensures adherence to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment.
