Position Requirements

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in planning, architecture or a related field; supplemented by one (1) year of experience in a planning related discipline; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Requires a valid state driver’s license with acceptable driving history.

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Description

This classification conducts duties related to specialized planning activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The functions listed below are those that represent most of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

  • Provides technical assistance to public, private organizations, and individuals; reviews applications and recommends appropriate actions; identifies current applicable regulations and approved conditions controlling the site.
  • Researches and evaluates project data; oversees and prepares plans, designs, and specifications.
  • Reviews site plans for compliance with the conditions of zoning, building setback and subdivision regulations for issuance of construction permits.
  • Intakes and processes rezoning applications; prepare and provides agendas, voting forms for petitions, and minutes of previous hearings; records meeting attendance and voting actions; transcribes minutes and creates official meeting reports.
  • Develops and updates various City databases including maps, website, and infrastructure; conducts administrative functions in support of the Zoning Board of Appeals and the Planning Commission.
  • Reviews residential and commercial building permits, sign permits, administrative, and fence permits.

Additional Functions:

  • Performs other related duties as required.
