Description

The Capital Area Food Bank has entered a new stage of our work where, in partnership, we test a variety of pilot projects to see what service “bundles” make the largest impact, and scale those that are most effective. This position will work closely with the Sr. Director of Food, Policy and Impact to develop, implement and evaluate interventions that couple healthy food with healthcare interventions. The Manager of Healthcare Partnerships and Pilot Innovations will be involved in every aspect of building these pilots – identifying new partnerships, operationalizing the intervention, building internal teams, tracking budgets, and working with an evaluation team to measure the impact of each pilot.

We are seeking a leader who has experience working within healthcare. In partnership with the Sr. Director of Food, Policy and Impact, this person will take lead on our healthcare partnerships. This role will require a professional well-versed in-service delivery in a clinical environment including familiarity with the language, data systems, and dietary needs across a spectrum of diet related illnesses. Ideal candidates are familiar with Food Is Medicine innovations nationally and are ready to contribute CAFB’s local body of research to this effort.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Management: 

  • Support all aspects of the development and implementation of pilot activities 
  • Manage and track spending in line with budget allocations 
  • Play a coordination role between CAFB staff and pilot partners in implementation of pilots 
  • Supervise and manage the Healthcare & Workforce Pilots Specialist as well as fellows/ interns/ volunteers as necessary  
  • Document best practices in operations, programmatic implementation, evaluation methods to update funder and share with Feeding America network 
  • Support cultivation of new partnerships which will integrate new models of grocery distribution/delivery based on partner needs  

Clinical Expertise:

  • Be able to apply clinical knowledge/ expertise to inform the planning, design, launch and evaluation of food pharmacy programs

Operations: 

  • Lead the design and implementation of new food distribution programs within healthcare settings
  • Work with Food Resources Team, CAFB Dietitian and Sr. Director of Food, Policy and Impact to ensure grocery/food menus meets the specific needs of population served through pilots including foods that address specific diet related disease, stage of life and cultural needs
  • Oversee the implementation of pilot initiatives which involves oversight and coordination with various teams including (but not limited to): Food Resources for the selection and procurement of foods, Operations for the receipt, warehousing, and delivery schedule of foods, and Volunteers for the box packing 

Communication: 

  • Work in collaboration with multiple teams across the CAFB and oversee development of educational materials and resources for a variety of audiences
  • Work with marketing and communications team of the CAFB to speak to success and impact of programs through one pagers, blogs, social media and other vehicles
  • Coordinate meetings to explore or establish partnerships as well as maintain and nourish relationships with long-standing partners

Evaluation: 

  • Work in partnership with leadership team and external evaluation consultants to support the creation of logic models, performance measures, measurement tools and communication tools to track a variety of outcomes for each pilot project 
  • Research best practices in Food+ areas of focus, including but not limited to, healthcare and poverty alleviation areas of study
 
Position Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Per DC Governemnt mandate the candidate must be fully vaccinated 
  • Master’s degree in public health, nutrition or related field required; Registered Dietitian Nutritionist credential, Registered Nurse or background/ work experience in a clinical healthcare setting strongly preferred
  • At least 3-5 years’ work experience, with at least 1-2 years’ experience supervising full-time staff
  • At least 3 years’ experience with project planning and management and demonstrated experience with operational planning, budgeting, implementation, and evaluation of health-focused initiatives especially preferred    
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills 
  • Experience and competency with various data management systems 
  • Ability to prioritize, troubleshoot, and meet tight deadlines 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office programs 
  • Sensitivity working with diverse populations 
  • Strong commitment to social justice 
  • Experience working on food access/ security initiatives and addressing the root causes of health inequities in historically disadvantaged and underserved communities
  • A strong commitment to health and racial equity
  • Able to navigate the DC metro area by car and/or metro; travel in underserved communities 

COMPETENCIES:

  • Experience in the development of Internal Review Board Protocols in the healthcare field 
  • Experience with Medicaid or Medicare administration  
  • Experience using social media to engage audiences on social causes a plus
  • Experience developing, leading, and evaluating community-based programming
  • Experience working in multicultural settings with diverse populations   
  • Experience working with diverse audiences  

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Physical activities involve sitting for 80% of the workday
  • Ability to lift food boxes weighing up to 25 lbs. 
  • Occasionally lifts office supplies up to 20 pounds 

 WORK ENVIRONMENT:  

  • Temporarily working hybrid, currently working in the office once a week or as program requires
  • Ability to travel to sites, as needed, throughout the metropolitan area 
  • Some work may take place in our warehouse distribution center, or at our partner agencies
