Job Title: Commercial Dispatcher

Location: Blaine, MN

Terms: Non-exempt: Full time, day shift with overtime.

About the role:

The Commercial Dispatcher coordinates the activities of Roll-Off and Commercial front load drivers to maximize productivity, while assisting in problem resolution, prompt and effective service to our employees, drivers, and customers. Primarily communicating with the drivers to assist them with problem resolution and routing concerns while they are on route. The Dispatcher will handle incoming service orders, direct drivers, and resolve service issues. Strong interaction and communication with internal and external customers, including customer service, sales, and operational staff. This position plays an instrumental role in the Operation of our entire company.

Responsibilities: 

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties below satisfactorily.
  • Heavy interaction with Operational Management, administrative staff, and drivers, especially with the Residential dispatcher.
  • Take initiative and ownership of all routes and drivers, directing them as needed to achieve the best efficiencies throughout the day, working with Management as well.
  • Management of daily documentation from drivers, including processing and verifying accuracy.
  • Use of software to manage time and attendance, safety, supply chain, and contract labor statistics through data entry and reporting tools.
  • Update, prepare, and upload/print/distribute the daily route schedule, including vacation coverage, as well as future needs based on upcoming workload.
  • Relates relevant operational information to appropriate stakeholders on a daily basis.
  • Fields incoming calls from customers, and e-mails from customer service and sales department; manages requests for pick-up or container delivery and ensure same-day service.
  • Initiates outbound calls to customers while drivers are on-site/location, resolving pick-up and other issues.
  • Review and execute work order releases as they are presented through the system.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves potential delivery and pick-up problems before they result in in-service issues.
  • Communicate with maintenance shop personnel on down (out of service) equipment and daily breakdowns to keep the drivers on route.
  • Assistance in resolving service, safety, and operational concerns.
  • Operate scale software in the absence of the scale house attendant as well as with other Scale House operations as needed (Drop-offs, Dispatching)
  • Assist residential and compost drivers in the morning prior to the arrival of the residential/compost dispatcher
  • Work closely with Commercial drivers, taking ownership of the routes ad all issues that arise on a daily basis. Serve as the liaison between the drivers and the customer(s), both external and internal
  • Other minor duties may be assigned and may vary as needed. 
  • Schedule Daily Roll-Off Routes efficiently while still ensuring outstanding and timely customer service.
  • Dispatch on going changes throughout the day to drivers
  • Assist office with Roll-Off phone calls when necessary
  • Assist with training of Roll-Off drivers
  • Help Identify problems/issues within the Roll-Off and Commercial divisions and assist Operations Management in resolving such issues.
  • Develop a schedule to ensure full or partially full boxes at the Recycling Center are emptied in a timely manner avoiding any overflow
  • Managing KPI with Commercial/Roll-Off supervisor on a weekly basis

 

Must Haves:   

  • HS Diploma/GED, undergraduate degree preferred
  • 1+ year of relevant experience in customer service or operations, waste industry experience preferred
  • Computer savvy – MS Office, Routeware, and other software
