Position Profile – City of Burlington NC Assistant City Manager – Administrative Services
The City of Burlington, NC is seeking an Assistant City Manager for Administrative Services (ACM-Admin Serv). The ACM-Admin Serv is an integral part of the City’s senior leadership team, working on city-wide initiatives including the annual budget, capital budget, and City Council initiatives. The position works independently on special projects and assignments as needed by the City Manager and carries a portfolio of work that includes direct supervision of Animal Services, Community Engagement, Economic Development, Information Technology, and Recreation & Parks Departments.
The next ACM-Admin Serv will be a self-starting leader with a demonstrated history of multi-dimensional problem-solving who has the skills to support and challenge the talented and experienced department heads who are direct-reports to the position. The ideal candidate will be committed to providing excellent customer service by being approachable, composed, and able to pivot quickly to address rapidly changing circumstances on multiple fronts. Prior experience serving communities with diverse populations and working with partners, including non-profit agencies and volunteer boards and commissions is desired. Overall, the successful candidate will be a committed public servant that is able to advocate, demonstrate, and explain the role city services plays in improving the lives of others.
Burlington is a rapidly growing, full-service city with a current population around 56,000. The city is situated between the Piedmont Triad (Greensboro) and Research Triangle (Raleigh/Durham) regions of the state. Good proximity to the I-85 Corridor provides quick and easy access to these metropolitan areas. The area is rich with cultural and recreational activities, as well as leading universities, both local and in nearby cities. The community offers an affordable mix of housing options, that include downtown, suburban and rural.
Qualifications and experience:
A bachelor's degree in public administration, business administration or related field is required. A Master's degree is highly desirable. The City seeks an experienced public administrator with a minimum of five (5) years of progressive management experience. Credentialed Manager designation from the International City/County Management Association (ICMA-CM) is desired.
Salary:
The salary for this position is negotiable based upon the candidate’s qualifications and experience. The hiring range is $100,000-$125,000 and is supplemented by an excellent benefit package.
