Purpose of Division: The National Initiatives Division of NeighborWorks America (NWA) is responsible for developing, testing, and mapping innovative national programs and services designed in support of the approximately 250 NeighborWorks Organizations with the overall objective of sustaining a network of excellence that creates opportunities for people to purchase affordable homes, improve their lives and strengthen their communities.

In addition, the division oversees grant programs beyond the NeighborWorks Network, including other nonprofit and governmental agencies throughout the country. The areas of focus within National Initiatives includes homeownership and lending, financial capability, green strategies, community and resident engagement, community stabilization, real estate and the national foreclosure mitigation counseling program.

Position Summary: The Lending Manager, under the direction of the Director of lending, provides day-to-day programmatic support and analysis to all certified community development financial institutions (CDFIs) and non-certified network lenders. The Manager will implement defined national, regional and local lending strategies to support the growth of equitable and inclusive lending, self-sufficiency in the lending and portfolio management line of business, and innovations to increase lending efficiencies that minimize risk for network lenders. Additionally, the selected candidate will work with teams across NeighborWorks America and the CDFI Industry to identify and expand network resources and to strengthen the capacity of network lenders. The position requires a broad understanding of community development financial institutions, community economic development, and strong multi-tasking skills.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Manage the annual CDFI Capacity Building Initiative
  • Develop and distribute quarterly lender newsletter
  • Deploy monthly webinars on various network driven lending topics
  • Oversee the update of existing materials and expansion of subject matter content in Lender Tool Kit
  • Research and share current community development finance industry innovations to increase capacity of network lenders
  • Develop, coordinate and deliver sessions at national training institutes to address needs and demands of network lenders
  • Manage annual Supplemental Grants process for network lenders collaborating with different teams within NeighborWorks America
  • Significantly contribute to the development and delivery of the CDFI Summit
  • Provide strategic thought leadership around the biannual business plan for NW Lending
  • Promote lending resources to network organizations through outreach and events to reverse longstanding inequities for communities of color.
  • Work closely with NHPL Data Team to advance network lender outcomes and output
  • Management of network annual lender profiles
  • Deliver necessary subject matter expert resources
  • Manager lender sessions offered at annual Strength Matters/Chief Financial Officers Conveying Serve on committees as appropriate to support NHPL goals
  • Serve on committees as appropriate to support NHPL goals
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements

Required Minimum Qualifications:
(a) Education: A bachelor’s degree in business administration, community economic development, public finance, nonprofit management or related field. Five years of working in a nonprofit/ community development financial institution may be substituted in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
(b) Experience:

  • A minimum of (5) five years of working in a nonprofit or community development financial institution environment

(c) Licenses, Certifications:

  • none

(d) Competencies, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

General

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment across multiple programs and projects
  • Completing tasks on-time with minimum supervision in a remote environment
  • Managing multiple deadlines and requirements all competing for yours and other resources
  • Exceptional writing skills and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to change from detailed tasks to visioning with very little downtime
  • Focus on changing priorities on a daily/weekly basis
  • Proven organizational and time management skills

Knowledge

  • Understanding of community development lending and lending process
  • Ability to work with organizations serving urban, rural, suburban, from local to nationwide target markets
  • Understand the CDFI certification process and other federal government programs supporting nonprofit lenders
  • Knowledge of innovative programs for affordable housing, small business, consumer or intermediary lending and development services to improve financial sustainability.

Skills

  • Experience in lending operations, loan administration, service delivery, or program development
  • Display strong skills in research and analysis of current innovations in community development finance
  • Display strong/strategic professional decision-making
  • Deliver on-line and in-person trainings/webinars across multiple areas
  • Management and oversight of consultants
  • Proven experience in developing and meeting program/project timelines

  • Ability to learn proprietary software programs of nonprofit funders
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom/webinar and Teams applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional certification in community development finance, community economic development or nonprofit management
  • 2-4 years’ experience concentrated in community development finance

Working Conditions:
