Description

Adventure Summary

The purpose of the position is to be responsible for creating persuasive marketing copy for all Brownells-branded catalogs, products, websites, advertorial, digital marketing, direct mail pieces, and a other external and internal marketing communications under the direction Creative Director and Lead Sr. Writer.

 

What You Will Do

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

Operational

  • Write, edit, and proofread, copy for all marketing documents and web content.
  • Develop and regularly update content for the Brownells websites to ensure web copy supports company messaging and search engine optimization (SEO) efforts.
  • Responsible for clear, concise, on-time, error-free writing that carries defined marketing messages and effectively motivates action by the reader.
  • Proofread all deliverables for grammar, editorial accuracy, and adherence to specific brand voices.
  • Edit and rework copy received from in-house product managers and outside vendors to conform to Brownells style and standards.
  • Research information to develop product copy, copy block titles, bullet points, etc.
  • Contact manufacturers and vendors via telephone and e-mail for additional product features & benefits information.
  • Identify unique product functions and features and integrate these as benefits into persuasive marketing copy that helps customers make informed buying decisions.
  • Write concise, engaging subject lines, preheaders, and banner texts for daily customer marketing e-mails that encourage customer click-thru and conversion.
  • Write SEO-friendly titles and introductory texts for Brownells video content.
  • Create and edit articles for the "Learn" section of the website, either as standalone features or to accompany videos.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple writing projects in a fast-paced environment without sacrificing quality of writing and content accuracy.
  • Complete copy revisions when product features and specifications change.

Strategic

  • Conceptualize new, exciting ways to present products in on the website, in marketing e-mails, and print.
  • Effectively communicate our various in-house brand messages and product features and benefits.
  • Learn the company’s market segments and industry jargon.
  • Apply various copywriting styles to fit different market segments and media types, including SEO-enriched website copy, marketing e-mails, online video descriptions (e.g., YouTube), catalog copy, ads, brochures, flyers, package labels, user instructions etc.

Leadership

  • Work with limited information and minimal supervision, while solving problems encountered during copywriting.
  • Establish a good rapport with internal staff and vendors.
  • Work closely with layout, graphic design, photography and video staff to ensure products are presented in a clear, accurate, and appealing fashion.
  • Work closely with Creative Director and Lead Sr Writer to ensure consistent messaging throughout Brownells marketing materials.
  • Promote service-focused culture with emphasis on delivering high-quality written content and to internal and external customers.

Administrative

  • Assist with electronic data entry of new product information into workflow management system.
  • Assist with editing/proofreading and manual indexing as needed.

 

What You Will Need

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Advertising, Public Relations, English, Marketing or relevant field
  • Two or more years of professional writing experience
  • Experience with multi-channel, product information management (PIM) systems a plus
  • Retail/Direct Marketing experience a plus

Knowledge

  • Working background or strong interest in firearms and reloading

Skills

  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Possess confidence and initiative to do research to get answers, solve problems, and meet demanding deadlines
  • Ability to stay engaged to remain focused, on-task, and interested in every project
  • Contribute to new content development

Abilities

  • May have to perform minimum assembly/disassembly of products
  • Must be able to work efficiently with some flexibility to work extra hours before deadlines
  • Must be able to follow written instruction and diagrams

Attributes and Strengths

  • Strong desire to write, be creative, and explore a variety of styles, while also adhering to specific house style requirements

 

Physical Demands

Sedentary work. Sedentary work involves lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and occasionally lifting or carrying articles like docket files, ledgers, and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required occasionally and other sedentary criteria are met.
