Banquet Housemen 

Description

The Banquet Houseman is responsible for completing all setups and final breakdown of functions according to the Banquet Event Order. Housemen are responsible for the cleaning and detailing the room, and cleaning and returning equipment to its proper location. Set up, stock, and maintain work areas. Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of banquet inventory, storage areas and public space. Transport dirty linen to correct area to be cleaned, separate napkins from tablecloths, and restock linen shelves with clean linens. Maintain cleanliness of work areas throughout the day, practicing clean-as-you-go procedures. Assist other departments when needed to ensure optimum service to guests. Communicate and work closely with Banquet Captain, Servers, Bartenders and various Vendors to ensure a high level of service and seamless event transitions.

Nights, weekends, and holiday hours are required.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Comply with all company and safety and security policies and procedures. Complete Safety Training and Certifications as required.
  • Welcome and acknowledge all guests according to company standards, anticipate and address guests’ service needs, and thank guests with genuine appreciation.
  • Speak with others using clear and professional language.
  • Support team to reach common goals.
  • Ensure adherence to quality expectations and standards. Read and visually verify information in a variety of formats (e.g., Banquet Event Orders and Diagram).
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit for extended period of time.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds or less without assistance and 75 pounds or more with assistance.
  • Ability to grasp, turn, and manipulate objects of varying size and weight, requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Move over sloping, uneven, or slippery surfaces as well as up and down stairs and/or service ramps. Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stopping.
  • Must be flexible and willing to work a varied schedule.
  • Nights, weekends, and holiday shifts are required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess the following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Technical Skills: We require at least 1-2 years of experience setting up and break down of Banquet Functions.
  • Customer Service and Professionalism: Experience as or willingness to learn to be a role model and setting the standard for all staff to maintain high-quality and consistent customer service.
  • Problem Solving, Quality Control, and Priority Assessment: Must evaluate current practices and processes; immediately recognize potential areas of conflict; and suggest ways to improve current business methods and services provided.
  • Communication: Commitment to details both verbally and non-verbally and ability to encourage cooperative and consistent levels of communication with the back of house staff, front of house staff and management. Must understand instructions, read written company information and communicate with little or no additional direction.
  • Interpersonal Relationships: Highly developed empathy skills and ability to adapt to different personalities of guests, staff and outside vendors without losing focus. Must possess high professional ethics and avoid extreme familiarity or conflicts with others.
  • Conflict Management: Capacity to recognize problems when they arise and be able to resolve them appropriately by using good judgement, tact, and initiative according to company policy and procedure especially when navigating the unique situations that arise from alcohol. Requires unbiased communication skills to handle all types of conflicts that will occur at all levels of supervision and the ability to negotiate effectively.
  • Perform General Physical Activities: Ability to perform physical activities in a variety of environmental conditions that require moderate to maximum strength including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, handling materials.
  • Flexibility: Must be available to work overtime when needed, assist with the workload of others, and perform other duties as assigned.
