Be the vital starting point to sharing the gift of organ, eye and tissue donation in your community
Have you ever wondered what happens when you check the DONOR box on your driver’s license? Our team coordinates with our hospital partners, transplant centers, medical examiners and funeral homes, while also communicating the opportunity for grieving families to honor their loved one by saving & healing lives through organ, eye and tissue donation. Donation occurs when candidates, representative of our local communities, bring their clinical knowledge, critical thinking skills and advocacy to our Donor Services team. Our coordinators are responsible for guiding the donation process, managing referral calls, evaluating each unique donation situation, coordinating with medical professionals and offering the opportunity for donation via phone.

Job Responsibilites: 

Our Medical Evaluation and Donation Referral Coordinators leave a remarkable impact on thousands, while supporting the donation process, by executing the following responsibilities:

  • Managing communication and reviewing medical records with external healthcare professionals to evaluate a patient’s organ, eye or tissue donation potential.
  • Engaging in establishing rapport with donor families, via phone, presenting the opportunity for donation and supporting them through further medical history discussion.
  • Collaborating and coordinating logistics with other donation organizations and transplant centers supporting the transplantation process.

Position Requirements

Job Requirements:

Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to 6 years in medical terminology, human anatomy or disease processes in a direct patient or family care setting.

  • Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to 6 years in medical terminology, human anatomy or disease processes in a direct patient or family care setting.

  • Requires ability to display compassion with interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including the ability to speak and communicate clearly to convey information to donor families, hospital team members and transplant/procurement personnel in person or by phone.
  • Prefer bilingual speaking proficiency.
  • Prefer previous experience working in organ donation or transplantation.
  • With the variation of work duties and volume, it is essential to have strong personal stress management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to exhibit a high degree of quality, integrity, and honor confidentiality of all medical information and documentation, including protected health information (PHI).
  • Demonstrated ability to provide a high level of customer service to internal and external customers with proficiency in the ability to develop and connect with people quickly.
  • Proven self-directed, motivated contributor with a strong initiative and ability to function autonomously, establish priorities and work effectively within a team environment
  • Proven ability to problem-solve effectively and efficiently.
  • Must be organized, detail oriented, and have excellent critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to exhibit a high degree of quality, integrity, and honor confidentiality of appropriate information including, but not limited to, personal team member data, organizational operations or work processes, donor and donor family information, contributor details, any financial information and medical or protected health information (PHI) in accordance with HIPAA.
  • Proven skilled and competent in using technology based devices and mobile tools such as personal computers and related software, electronic medical record systems, mobile phones, and mobile printing devices
