Description

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures furthers the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, screenings, programs, initiatives, and collections. Welcoming visitors from Los Angeles and around the world, the Museum works in active ‘partnership with motion picture artists and specialists, scholars, staff, and diverse communities to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema, inspiring discourse, connection, joy, and discovery.

Reporting to the Exhibition A/V Manager, the Exhibition A/V Technician will provide audiovisual support for the Museum's exhibitions and projects. You will also assist with the installation, deinstallation, and daily maintenance of audiovisual equipment. 

This is a temporary, part-time position through June 2022. 

You Will:

  • Assist in all aspects of exhibition A/V installation and deinstallation.
  • Perform regular A/V maintenance of the museum’s core and temporary exhibition galleries.
  • Do A/V monitoring and maintenance of all museum exhibitions during weekend public hours of operation.
  • Troubleshoot technical problems.
  • Assist with the coordination and storage of A/V equipment.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of technically complex and artistically demanding projects.
  • Train staff in proper equipment use and procedures as needed.
  • Serve as the lead A/V technician to a staff of part-time A/V technicians as needed.
  • Assist in the research, development, and implementation of technologies for all exhibition and project needs.
  • Work around paints, cleansers and other similar products in a gallery environment and in work spaces that collect dust.
 
Position Requirements

You Have:

  • A bachelors degree in Film, Art, or related field.
  • 1+ years of experience with audiovisual equipment in a museum or related environment.
  • Working knowledge of hand power tools.
  • Demonstrated experience working successfully in a team environment, performing rotating tasks while exercising discretion and sound independent judgment.
  • Prior experience or willingness to be trained on and utilize OSHA approved safety equipment such as respirators and protective clothing.
  • Some experience with museum-level art handling practices and knowledge of archival materials and museum/gallery warehousing best practices preferred.
  • Ability to work on an active construction site, including climbing and working on ladders, lifting and moving up to 35 lbs., and intermittent physical activity (walking, standing, twisting, sitting, bending, and stooping).
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and holidays.
