Summary

The Mental Health Therapist provides individual and family therapy, play based intervention and consultation to children and families, as well as, coaching and supporting Skip-a-Long early care and education staff as part of innovative programming to provide intentional interactions that support the emotional health and well-being of involved stakeholders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Conduct classroom and face-to-face assessments, create collaborative education and success plans; link families with community resources and establish diagnoses as necessary.
  • Apply developmentally appropriate therapeutic interventions, advanced psychosocial theory and methods to individuals, families, and staff.
  • Provide evaluative, preventive, therapeutic, restorative and personal care services that assist in meeting the complex needs of children and their families.
  • Provide support, education, coaching of staff to address barriers in social and emotional learning and regulation.
  • Remain current with best practices, industry trends and provide internal and external direction with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead the development and ongoing support of program evaluation framework to assess the strengths of the program and to identify areas for growth.
  • Provide crisis intervention and conflict resolution assistance and differentiate between emergency and non-emergency tasks and respond accordingly.
  • Work with Chief Program Officer for programmatic compliance to budget and other financial/enrollment/quality/outcome criteria.
  • Develop initiatives to support the strategic direction of the agency and ways to improve the efficiency of program operations.
  • Assume accountability for providing appropriate documentation of all therapy/counseling sessions, significant incident occurrences, phone conversations, etc. consistent with applicable regulatory requirements.

SALCS operates Skip-a-Long Child Development Services - early care and education centers in Iowa and Illinois, The Home Child Care Network - a network of licensed and license-exempt home child care providers in both the Quad Cities and Peoria areas, Open Door - a crisis assistance program funded by IDHS to help individuals and families in crisis navigate local social services, SAL Child Care Connection - the child care resource and referral program in Peoria, IL, the Child Care Resource and Referral of Midwestern Illinois that serves the Illinois Quad Cities and surrounding counties, and Early Head Start Child Care Partnerships that serve Rock Island, Henry, and Mercer Counties in Illinois.
