** CLINICAL NURSE EDUCATOR I **
POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the evaluation and delivery of professional Staff Development education for non-critical care departments (i.e. general, medical, surgical). The incumbent is required to facilitate the Staff Development education process by planning, implementing, and evaluating competency assessments for continuing education and leadership development. Responsible for developing educational methods, including lesson planning, survey development, evaluation tools, record keeping and the design of teaching materials to support the development of the clinician. Works collaboratively with healthcare professionals to promote better disease management and high standards of clinical patient care. The incumbent must utilize cultural sensitivity and maintain knowledge of cultural practices and beliefs. Serves as role model of professional behavior to promote a professional nursing climate to meet the needs of the diverse department/units within TCHRCC.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develops and utilizes a plan for Staff Development orientation of new personnel while assessing the competency and areas requiring additional education, addresses TCRHCC policies and procedures, accrediting and regulatory requirements.
- Develops and coordinates education plans and best evidence based practices to enhance the nursing care of the patient population, successful completion of required in-services, and satisfactory performance of medical procedures, i.e. starting an IV. Assists in Staff Development focused remediation through one-on-one discussions or group presentations.
- Coordinates, plans, and conducts the orientation activities for the New Graduate Nurse Program, including classroom, didactic, simulation, and skills lab learning activities; while incorporating a reflective, creative, innovative, critical thinking and problem solving teaching strategy.
- Collaborates with department heads, administration, and other disciplines in the assessment, planning, development and implementation of educational programs to promote a climate which supports learning and open communication; identifies the appropriate delivery, material, and media of instruction material.
- Teaches content as needed and/or assigned to development staff and promote safe practice and documents the outcomes of educational programs.
- Facilitates the orientation of identified unit-level preceptors on their role and responsibility in precepting new graduate nurses, new hire nurses, and nursing students.
- Conducts, redefines, and assists in the design and implementation of Staff Development and clinical core competencies that address the needs of Staff Development as related to patient care.
- Teaches and coordinates classes such as the American Heart Courses (i.e. BLS, ACLS, PALS), and courses developed by other regulatory and professional associations (i.e. BFHI, TNCC). Coordinates educational activities with approved external resources (i.e. consultants, specialist).
- Assists the Director of Staff Development Education in maintaining all records according to the American Heart Association, the Arizona State Board of Nursing standards and other accrediting or regulatory agencies.
- Participates on committees, task forces, and projects relevant to improving Staff Development practice through education. Assists in the development of the annual nursing mandatory,
- Coordinates, collaborates, and facilitates mandatory Staff Development training for the hospital. Assists in preparing the monthly activity calendar of educational events. Advertises and promotes Staff Development educational opportunities both within and outside the organization.
- Collaborates with the Clinical informatics team in coordinating training of the electronic health records (EHR) to all Staff Development staff, including orientation of new staff to the E.H.R., and on-going training related to upgrades and new version roll-outs.
- Coordinates the Staff Development rotation of nursing students and students of ancillary Staff Development services (i.e. lab, cardiopulmonary, medical assistants) in conjunction with the Students’ Staff Development Instructor and in accordance to the approved Memorandum of Understanding or Memorandum of Agreement.
- Stays current with Staff Development practice and knowledgebase regularly through web-based studies, networking, or hands-on Staff Development work.
- Works with Employee Health assisting in coverage during times of increased demands or personnel scheduling shortages e.g. mass distribution of employee immunizations, screening, or treatments; employee monitoring Illness calls; off-site training/career development; PPE evaluations (fit testing); and, employee health call outs.
- Assist Employee Health with other nursing skilled duties as directed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned including identifying and participating in quality improvement activities.
** CLINICAL NURSE EDUCATOR II **
POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the evaluation and delivery of professional Staff Development staff education in the critical specialty environments (i.e. Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Room, and Trauma). The incumbent is required to facilitate the Staff Development process by planning, implementing and evaluating competency assessments for continuing education and leadership development. Responsible for developing educational methods, including lesson planning, survey development, evaluation tools, record keeping and the design of teaching materials to support the development of the clinician. Works collaboratively with healthcare professionals to promote better disease management and high standards of Staff Development patient care. The incumbent must utilize cultural sensitivity and maintain knowledge of cultural practices and beliefs. Serves as a role model of professional behavior to promote a professional nursing climate to meet the needs of the diverse department/units within TCHRCC. Serves as the acting manager in the absence of the Staff Development Director.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Coordinates and conducts mock code drills as determined by the Staff Development Director and identified educational needs of each patient care unit, throughout the facility as required by AHA, ACLS, and PALS protocols. Serves as a member of the Code Blue Committee.
- Focuses on the training and education of clinical care specialty areas in collaboration with Staff Development team.

Involves prolonged hours of sitting in an office setting operating a personal computer, as well as movement throughout the hospital. Distant travel may be required to conferences/trainings/meetings. Must be able to sit; talk or hear; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel prolonged periods of time. Must be able to reach with hands and arms. Other physical abilities include standing, walking, push/pull, and, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Position does require the ability to taste and smell at times. Must be able to lift to 25 pounds and push/pull more than 100 pounds occasionally re: W/C or cart. Must be have close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; and, depth perception. Must be able to adjust to focus. Must be able to hear alarms; client calls; instruction from physician/department staff; and, overhead pages over a loudspeaker. Requires repetitive motion actions regarding rarely both feet; prolonged both hands; prolonged both hands in grasping: light/simple; prolonged both hands fine dexterity; and, intermittent both hands grasping firm/heavy.
Mental:
Duties are wide in scope and encompass a variety of decision-making, analytical thought, and review. Performs a variety of difficult and complex tasks. Requires ability to deal relatively independently with interrelated elements to resolve problems, complications, and controversial matters. Requires extensive and expert knowledge of professional nursing and personnel management.
Environmental:
This position may intermittently require working near moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; and toxic or caustic chemicals. This position typically works in a quiet to moderate environmental noise level.
