Description

SUMMARY

Sets up and operates conventional, special purpose, and numerical control (CNC) machines to fabricate powdered metal tooling by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Follow all ISO 9001/IATF 16949 Procedures and Work Instructions relevant to your work area.

Operate manual lathe by using rough stock to make a rough punch, die, or other piece needed to press parts.

Use mills to make face detail on electrodes with different cutters to burn face detail in hardened punches and dies.

Grind ID’s and OD’s in pieces with a cylindrical grinder in order to get a smooth finish on ID’s and OD’s of pieces.

Use electrodes to burn detail in punches, dies, and other pieces using EDM machines.

Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished pieces, sequences of operations, and setup requirements.

Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.

Able to operate all machines that Machinist A is responsible for, however, does not yet have the experience and ability to perform at the Class A Level.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, trigonometry, and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
