Description
The AmeriCorps Program at Opportunity Village will greatly expand services available to Southern Nevada’s developmentally disabled population by developing and teaching a robust curriculum with a focus on employment training and related life skills. Education Specialists will be responsible for embedding in existing campus programs, developing connections with individuals served, and creating and teaching an effective set of classes over the course of their service year.
Opportunity Village has been serving individuals with intellectual disabilities for decades. Each year, we help over 2,000 people lead more independent and fulfilling lives. By implementing this new, innovative education program, led by AmeriCorps members, we hope to greatly improve the quality of life for individuals served by increasing their knowledge of life skills necessary to lead an independent, healthy life (cooking, cleaning, hobbies) and teaching them about different jobs and the skills necessary to succeed within them.
