Law Clerk- Summer 2022 (Seattle)

The Center is currently looking for one full-time law clerk for the summer 2022. This position is based out of the Seattle, WA office, although staff are currently working remotely, and may continue working remotely during the summer depending on the state of the COVID-19 pandemic.

General position overview: The Center for Biological Diversity's Seattle office seeks one motivated, creative and experienced law clerk. The law clerk will work within the Center’s International Program, supporting our attorneys’ work to combat trade in imperiled wildlife, assess treaty implementation, and review public records requests and will assist with the preparation of litigation and administrative advocacy in both domestic and international fora.

Main duties:

  • Conduct legal research and writing;
  • Prepare legal memos and assist with brief writing;
  • Prepare filings, investigate new cases and draft official policy comments;
  • On occasion, may have opportunities to observe court arguments or attend agency hearings.

Areas in which skills and experience will be gained:

  • The law clerks will gain experience in environmental advocacy, drawing on litigation, science, media, and grassroots organizing strategies to fight for the environment.


  • Must be a law student who has completed their second or third year of law school, or a student pursuing their LLMs to be eligible;
  • Strong legal research and writing skills;
  • Creativity, motivation, and good humor;
  • Interest in working with individuals from diverse backgrounds;
  • Background in environmental or biological studies or related experience is preferred;
  • Fluency in second language is preferred.

Salary: $16.69/hour
