Under the direction of the Manager of Risk Management, the Seasonal/On Call Security Assistant will provide Access Control and other Safety and Security services at Opportunity Village buildings and campuses, through enforcement of company policies and procedures. This is an unarmed position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Seasonal duties:

  1. Act as Security Lead during seasonal Oakey Campus events (HallOVeen, Vegas Fright Nights, Magical Forest, etc.) providing guidance and direction for contracted security personnel.
  2. Responsible for security screenings, access control and general property security during seasonal and special events
  3. Responsible for patrolling, inspecting and monitoring the campus property overnight and on weekends and holidays to ensure that all buildings, sheds, gates, and all Opportunity Village assets are secure
  4. Responsible for reporting to management all Safety and Security incidents such as internal/external crime, vandalism, trespassing, property damage and suspicious behavior
  5. Responsible for relying on established OV guidelines and instructions to perform functions of the job.
  6. Notify the police department immediately should any incident arise where property is damaged, break-ins are evident, trespassers are found on property or danger of any kind is perceived
  7. Responsible for completing all required reports, as required.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.

On-Call duties:

  1. Be available on-call for regular staff time off, and call outs.
  2. Open and close buildings when required, to include locking/unlocking perimeter doors and arming/disarming burglar alarm systems.
  3. Conduct Security patrols and Safety inspections throughout the property.
  4. Liaise and coordinate with the local Grass Roots Safety Team for Safety-related matters.
  5. Meet and greet all entering personnel. Monitor and verify all staff and visitor access into and out of OV properties through ID verification. Register visitors in appropriate system.
  6. Maintain continuous effective communication with all departments and employees to coordinate visitors.
  7. Manage and route incoming and outgoing US Mail, courier deliveries, etc.
  8. Answer and route incoming phone calls.
  9. Assist with video surveillance and Safety and Security reporting and investigations.
  10. Identify and communicate all access violations, theft, or other policy violations, to the Manager of Safety and Security.
  11. Check security cameras for proper operation daily. Report discrepancies to the Manager of Safety and Security.
  12. Provide guidance and assistance in emergency situations.
  13. Provide excellent customer service.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The only responsibilities considered supervisory shall be while serving during seasonal events - act as Security lead for contracted guards.

 
Position Requirements

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Ability to perceive dangerous situations and react appropriately without endangering lives
  • Must be comfortable approaching strangers and verifying identity of others
  • Basic reasoning ability required for determining what actions are appropriate to take under any given situations.  Quick thinking and decision-making are required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals, co-workers and supervisors (verbal and written)
  • Must be familiar with and apply a variety of security concepts, practices and procedures
  • Must possess social perceptiveness to assess and understand other’s reactions and behaviors.
  • Basic computer skills - email, word processing, spreadsheets

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Required: High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Required: Minimum two years’ experience in the security industry 
  • Preferred: Current Driver’s License
  • Preferred: Forklift and high lift certification a plus, must be able to obtain forklift and high lift certifications

  • Ability to bend, squat and stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to work on ladders, scissor and basket lifts
  • Ability to work outside in a theme park environment in variable weather conditions
