Description

Overview

The Program Coordinator is responsible for the planning and implementing of live and virtual community activation events designed to build and support the entrepreneurial and artist community for Motown Museum’s Hitsville NEXT in fulfilment of the museum’s mission. This position requires flexible and extended hours at times including working during evening and weekend hours.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinate Hitsville NEXT Building and Motown Museum campus activation events such as Founder’s Day, Dancing in the Plaza weekly events, Performance Porch Performances
  • Coordinate the community celebration events such as MLK Jr. Day, Detroit Homecoming, Juneteenth, Black History Month
  • Support the Program Managers with execution of entrepreneurial programming such as Pop Shop, Emerging Entrepreneur Marketplace, and Get Ready Entrepreneurial Bootcamp
  • Assist with regular community outreach to educate and promote NW Goldberg community involvement in the Museum’s activities via face-to-face, door to door and virtual engagement
  • Connect Museum with local organizations, programs, events, and creative opportunities that provide visibility for Hitsville NEXT artists, the Museum and partner institutions
  • Manage existing and develop new relationships with external constituents and vendors
  • Facilitate organizational wide internal communications about events, and work with the Director of Programming to ensure accurate external communications
  • Collaborate with all department leaders to ensure all live event needs are clarified, prioritized and balanced with recurring organizational obligations
  • Manage storage and inventory of Programming Department assets and general event supplies
  • Collaborate with the Director of Programming in order to administer, track, and reconcile budget expenses
  • Create event video recaps, feedback, goal event data recaps, and insights on all events
  • Represent Motown Museum at community and professional meetings, conferences, media requests, interviews, and speaking engagements that support the Museum’s mission
 
Position Requirements

Competencies

  • Experience in developing participatory experiences for adults and children
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite; technologically savvy
  • Experience editing various video projects and inserting sound effects, music and transitions a plus
  • A self-starter, forward-thinker, and creative problem-solver that works with minimum supervision
  • Able to identify problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication; and interpersonal skills
  • Able to prioritize, follow-up, and complete assignments on a timely basis
  • Wise and efficient management of time, effort, and other resources

Work Environment

This position operates in an office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such

as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

 

Physical Demands/Strength

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit and use

repetitive motions. The employee is occasionally required to reach, handle, grasp, talk, and hear.

Rarely, does the position require standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing,

balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, feeling, and eye/hand/foot coordination. The

position requires little physical effort.

 

Environmental Conditions

Loud noise. (recording studio, performances on porch, community activations, etc.)

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Salaried. This position occasionally requires weekend work and some evenings.

 

Travel

Regular travel to local meetings. Some overnight travel. Must have reliable transportation and a

valid driver license.

Education/Experience

Bachelor Degree

At least two years of project management experience in liberal or creative arts environment
