Description

The After School Support Worker (ASSW) works with the After School Worker to provide activities in the after school programs. The efforts of the ASSW are directed to supporting children aged 6 to 12 in their:

  • Levels of physical activity and enjoyment of physical activity
  • Knowledge of healthy food choices and ability to plan a healthy meal
  • Resiliency, self esteem, self confidence
  • Homework and school-related projects

Program-Related Activities

  • Engages in activities to meet local children and youth, their families and community residents to promote the after school programming.
  • Liaises and collaborates with Carlington staff as appropriate.
  • Maintains daily attendance for each child registered in the program and supports other administrative tasks for group record keeping.
  • Works with the ASW to supervise participants and deliver program content within a safe and secure environment.
 
Position Requirements

Education

  • High school diploma; related post-secondary education in progress.
  • Leadership training such as High Five, or other youth leadership program or equivalent experience and training, an asset.
  • CPR and First Aid certification an asset.

Professional Experience

  • Experience supporting after school programs for children and youth aged 6 to 12.
  • Experience and interest in working with marginalized and diverse clientele, such as low-income, high-needs, newcomer, and a variety of multicultural communities.
  • Experience in a non-profit, community-based organization.

Key Competencies

  • Highly motivated, enthusiastic and responsible individual committed to the healthy development of children.
  • Familiar with Ontario Curriculum for Grades 1-8.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, oral and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computers and various software applications, including Microsoft Office programs, client database software, and electronic record keeping in a client services setting.

Linguistic Profile

  • This position is not designated under Carlington’s French Language Services Plan.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Bilingualism (French / English) is preferred, a third language relevant to our client population is an asset.

Other

  • Availability to work late afternoons and evenings and occasional weekends if required.
  • Must be available to work Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from to 2:30 to 6:30pm.
 
Salary Range $18.09/hour - $21.61/hour
