This position excavates, installs, maintains, and repairs zoo facilities and roadways while operating specific types of motorized construction and maintenance equipment and allied attachments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Drive truck and trailer to and from job sites.
- Responsible for the safe operation of heavy construction and maintenance equipment.
- Operate backhoes, mobile sweepers, graders, bulldozers, mowers, rollers and rotovaters.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and clean equipment, including checking oil, water, and tire pressure; washing windows; and washing off dirt and grease.
- Inspect job site for underground utilities, overhead obstructions and hazardous conditions.
- Dig holes, trenches and tunnels and stockpiles spoil or loads spoil in dump truck for hauling.
- Ensure that safety measures are observed when loading and unloading material.
- May be required to act in a lead capacity at job sites where all other activities are secondary to equipment operation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Knowledge of the operation of construction and maintenance equipment required.
- Ability to operate motorized construction and maintenance equipment and their accessories, and heavy trucks for transporting construction and maintenance equipment.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
One year experience in heavy equipment operation and maintenance or completion of a recognized course in construction and maintenance equipment operation, including practical operating experience and instruction in mechanical principles and general construction and maintenance procedures. Combination of education, training and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability).
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Commercial Class A driver's license with the Air Brake restriction removed.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Must have basic computer skills to access email and submit online timesheet.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL ABILITY
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Pay: $30.72 per hour, plus benefits
