Job Summary

The Head of Youth Baseball and Softball will be responsible for leading the strategy, development, and implementation of baseball and softball programming designed to increase local youth interest in playing the games of baseball and softball and infuse the Pirates brand into baseball and softball teams, leagues, organizations, and events of all levels in our community. This role will be the MLB’s main point of contact to implement MLB youth baseball and softball programming such as Pirates RBI, Jr. Pirates, PLAY BALL and Pitch, Hit, Run. They will also design and execute recognition programs for local youth athletes to incorporate into Pirates' home games at PNC Park. The Head of Youth Baseball and Softball will play an integral role in hosting premier baseball and softball events at PNC Park such as camps, clinics, showcases, and tournaments. This person will work closely with the head of Pirates Charities and Pirates Community Engagement to infuse baseball and softball activity across department-wide programming, including the support of Fields for Kids grants, Miracle League initiatives and bringing the sports of baseball and softball to underserved communities in our area.

Responsibilities:

Primary:

  1. Work with Pirates senior management team to develop and implement the team’s youth baseball and softball strategy.
  2. Oversee Pirates RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) program to provide a way for local underserved youth to participate in youth baseball and softball programs.
  3. Plan and execute year-round programming to engage local youth in the sports of baseball and softball and infuse the Pirates brand in the community.
  4. Oversee, plan and implement an in-park recognition program to highlight local youth athletes and key events happening in our community.
  5. Partner with the City of Pittsburgh and like organizations to develop and oversee local youth baseball programs, including Junior Pirates.
  6. Collaborate with the Community Impact team to deliver off-the-field programming to local youth, helping them to develop as a full 360-degree athlete.
  7. Build relationships with local youth baseball/softball experts to understand the challenges and opportunities surrounding youth baseball in our community and build/execute programming to assist in these areas.
  8. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with local, regional, and national youth baseball organizations.
  9. Assist in developing and managing the budget for youth baseball and softball initiatives.
  10. All other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Pirates Charities and Community Engagement.

Secondary:

  1. Serve as a liaison with MLB regarding youth baseball and softball initiatives.
  2. Work with the Pirates Ticketing department to help bring more youth baseball and softball players to the ballpark through grassroots ticket sales efforts.
  3. Work with the Pirates Corporate Sales Dept. on mutually beneficial relationships between partners and local youth baseball/softball groups.
 
Position Requirements

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Minimum of 2 - 3 years experience in youth sports, marketing, or events management.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Desired:

  • Knowledge of regional and national youth baseball structures and programs.
