CNC Programmer - Technician

CNC Programmer with experience programming 3- and 5-axis CNC mills. You will develop new CNC programs for production runs or modify existing programs for different machines. During the manufacturing process, you will perform quality checks with the machine operator to ensure the program is producing parts according to specifications, making manual adjustments if necessary. You will also work with the engineers to look for product modifications that might reduce the amount of material or fabrication time. Although no formal education is required, applicants should be familiar with the computer-aided design programs Mastercam and GeoPath.


  • Develop CNC programs for production runs
  • Analyze drawings to determine dimensions and to choose cutting tools, machine speeds, and feed rates
  • Modify existing programs for different machines
  • Maintain tooling database
  • Read technical drawings and set up the machines in accordance with blueprints
  • Use computer software to program machines
  • Perform quality checks to ensure products meet design specifications
  • Adjust machine settings to optimize production while maintaining safety and quality
  • Know and follow SOP's, Dimensional Control Plan's, Process controls and reaction plans. Provide leadership for team compliance with plans and procedures.
  • Must understand and comply with our internal layered audit system.
  • Set-up a variety of machines that produce a range of parts, perform machine changeover and manage machine uptime.
  • Manage tools, machines and parts to meet production goals.
  • Lead team to maintain machines and work areas in clean and orderly condition.
  • Determine from parts produced, the extent and nature of adjustments and changes in tooling.
  • Coordinate with Production control on schedules and execute production planning.
  • Remove, repair, replace, adjust, secure and maintain tooling. Understand what tooling is being consumed and react to abnormalities.
  • Assist and support the associates by timely set-ups, repairs and material handling.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on various operations as needed and ensure PM Schedules are complete.
  • Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) reviews, analysis and tracking within cells.
  • Monitor Work in Process (WIP) within Cell
  • Manage recovery plans
  • Reinforce 5S (housekeeping) behaviors
  • Analyze and classify scrap daily by shift
  • Ensure a safe working environment free of hazards by doing the following (this list is not exhaustive): being aware of safety regulations, taking responsibility for the associates' safety on each set up, investigating, recording and preparing safety incident reports, eliminating and reinforcing safety behaviors, reporting unsafe conditions and policing PPE.
  • Repair and troubleshoot equipment

Position Requirements

Experience and Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Completion of technical or associate degree a plus
  • Experience programming 3- and 5-axis CNC mills
  • Familiarity with Mastercam and GeoPath
  • Reading, writing and mathematical level necessary to competently perform job duties.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing setting as a CNC Programmer
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Skilled at interpreting technical drawings and blueprints
  • Ability to work independently and follow directions
  • Excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.

Additional Notes

  • Position requires the ability to stand on your feet for up to 8-10 hours.
  • Position requires the ability to lift, bend, good hand dexterity, visual inspection and some manual handling not to exceed 35 pounds.
