SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Supervised by the President of Moravian University
POSITION SUMMARY: Moravian University, the nation's sixth oldest college, and a master's comprehensive university, seeks an energetic, talented, and collaborative leader to become its next Provost and Dean of the Faculty. The Provost will be a member of the President's Cabinet and provide transformative leadership and active management of the university's academic programs and staff. The Provost will work closely with Moravian's President, senior leadership team, and the faculty to promote innovation and vitality in its curricular program for an increasingly talented and diverse student body. The Provost will contribute to purposefully integrating the liberal arts, professional programs, and civic engagement at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Provost will provide/promote initiatives to increase the university's capacity to advance learning through teaching and scholarship of the highest quality. The Provost will be a tested leader, committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, who can provide sound and decisive direction toward objectives; gain support for key initiatives among the faculty and diverse constituents on and off campus; and effectively manage and improve processes and influence results in support of the university's mission and objectives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Provost and Dean of the Faculty will collaborate with the President and the executive staff, other academic administrators, and the faculty to:
- Lead the continuing development and implementation of an academic strategic plan, addressing the mission and goals of the university;
- Coordinate faculty recruitment, employment, evaluation, and development;
- Supervise school deans and chairs of academic departments;
- Promote a culture of collaboration that advances diversity, equity, and inclusion among all university constituencies;
- Foster an environment that stimulates outstanding teaching, scholarship, and creative activity;
- Develop, mentor, and inspire the faculty to meet the changing needs of increasingly diverse students and create a competitive, best places to work environment;
- Develop innovative programs and policies in undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education, including effective use of instructional technology across the campus;
- Provide key leadership to graduate programs, the undergraduate general education program, and university-level assessment and accreditation initiatives;
- Work with faculty, administrators, staff, and students across the university and with our international partners to promote and implement the university's global engagement initiatives.
- Work with the VP for Enrollment and the Dean for Student Success on enrollment management initiatives, including improvement of retention and graduation rates;
- Establish, monitor, and evaluate key performance metrics; conduct timely analysis of course information; maintain accountability within each department via data-driven tracking of performance metrics;
- Contribute to the national dialogue on issues related to academic affairs, including the development of a more inclusive curriculum and pedagogical practices, in order to improve teaching and learning;
- Develop and implement strategies to enrich student success, including students' classroom, research, and extracurricular experiences at both undergraduate and graduate levels;
- Maintain and enforce policies outlined in the faculty handbook;
- Supervise the integrity of academic records;
- Oversee, endorse, and sign collaborative agreements with outside entities focused on educational and research initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS: The next Provost and Dean of the Faculty at Moravian University should be a collaborative, equity-minded academic leader and administrator with the talent and organizational skills to develop and lead a sophisticated and experienced faculty. The Provost will have earned a doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, or equivalent) and demonstrated college teaching experience. In addition, a successful record of academic research and scholarship and credentials appropriate for full rank and tenure in an academic department, and evidence of a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion are requisite. Prior academic administrative leadership experience is preferred, with demonstrated outstanding managerial skills and the abilities to analyze and evaluate self and others' performance and to develop plans toward ongoing performance enhancement. She/he/they will be deeply committed both to the values of a New American College and University and the core personal values of integrity, collegiality, and respect for others. Finally, the Provost will provide visionary leadership to foster excellence in all aspects of faculty values and mission.

- Leadership experience with both undergraduate and graduate academic programs, and experience with both online and face-to-face teaching environments.
- An ability to serve as a thoughtful academic leader who can build consensus affecting the short-term while laying the foundation for medium- and long-term changes.
- A blend of academic, leadership, and management astuteness that draws in academic departments, builds a team, and inspires those involved in Academic Affairs.
- Experience with developing and implementing new academic programs, and with academic technologies.
- Deep commitment to the ideals of a liberal arts education.
- Demonstrated experience, expertise, and vision in the development of community partnerships to support faculty and enhance the student educational experience
