Supervisor in training works with lab leadership to train in various areas and aspects of a laboratory operation. May be asked to oversee the daily workload and staffing placements under the direction of a Lab Supervisor and/or Lab Management Team. Responsibilities include completing various training programs, assisting assigned personnel, monitoring performance and establishing action plans, interviewing of applicants, taking steps and initiatives to improve operational efficiencies by focusing on customer service and maximizing production and profit, scheduling/staffing and directing work flow.
Assist the Lab Leadership team in supervising laboratory operations (may be asked to take on a sub-section of a lab) to drive compliance with FSNS Quality Manual, SOP's and quality control measures specified to maintain compliance with ISO 17025 guidelines.
Perform internal audits of processes and ensure accurate performance and interpretation of test results,
Supervise training of new and current laboratory personnel in procedures and protocols
Work with the Lab Leadership team to address client needs. Engage in getting to results status and reporting to clients as directed.
Obtain the ability to perform all roles that report to a supervisor during the training period.
Maintain a high degree of technical competence by reading scientific journals, attending professional workshops, and being aware of food industry issues and trends
Demonstrate competence to perform various lab activities to include quality control records, forms, files, pathogen log, etc.
Learn and oversee lab staffing and workflows validating technicians are properly allocated in the respective areas of the Laboratory to include shifting people when necessary
Work closely with the Operations and Technical Managers and assist when needed
Assisting with managing priorities and schedule such that individual goals as well as team goals are achieved with encouraged participation in the Food Safety Net Services Team
Responsible for the safety of oneself and others working within their area
Responsible for the completion of required training
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Life Science or related field
Master’s degree in Life Science or related field preferred
Two years of analytical laboratory experience
Or equivalent combination of education and experience
Working knowledge of aseptic sampling technique, automated lab equipment, and acceptable methods and procedures
Familiarity with GMP , OSHA guidelines, FDA, BAM, APHA, and Compendium methods and procedure
Broad knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures of a food testing laboratory
Knowledge of LIMS and Microsoft Office Products software.
