Our EMPOWER After School Program provides an enriching environment for school-aged children (K-12) with intellectual and/or developmental delays.  Our goal is to engage and motivate participants through opportunities in wellness, education, and recreation while focusing on having fun as a group and getting out into the community!     Together we achieve better days.

Our EMPOWER After School Program has an immediate, full-time opportunity for a Recreation Paraprofessional or Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) with a minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience to join our team in New Bern.   This position will provide support to clients Monday through Friday, 12:30 pm - 5:30 pm, and up to two Saturdays per month (6-8 hour shifts). If you are energetic and looking for a rewarding and challenging position, join our EMPOWER team!


As a Recreation Paraprofessional, you will work closely with children with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities in a group setting both at the New Bern center and in the community.  Through ongoing training, you will learn how to engage and support individuals in a recreational setting, while also teaching them how to communicate, play, and interact with others in meaningful ways.  This position requires creativity, playfulness, compassion, patience, appreciation for small successes, and a passion for bringing out the best in others.

  • Enjoy working independently, can multitask and prioritize as needed
  • Have reliable transportation for use in the program, and/or be willing to transport program participants in agency vehicles- e.g. van or mini-bus.
