Description

The Senior Air Defense Officer (SADO) SME I will lead the defensive operations and is the AADC’S representative charged with executing theatre air and missile defense.

Additional Responsibilities Include, but are not Limited To:

  • Manages all theater C2 assets, with some exceptions, and theater defense operations.
    • Coordinates with WOCs, Air Battle Managers, BCD, ADA liaison, NALE and MARLO personnel and Space and ISR representatives.
    • For most AOC RC missions, the SME is the only defensive team member and is required to replicate defensive team responsibilities.
    • Works closely with the PCF or other JECG members to support training audience requirements accurately and effectively.
  • Recommend changes in the air defense status, in coordination with the Theater Missile Defense Officer (TMDO) and the BCD, to the training audience.
  • Coordinate with the TMDO in overseeing the execution/notification of theater ballistic missile warning and response.
  • Ensures communications/coordination is maintained with subordinate C2 agencies, RADC and SADC.
  • Overall control authority for the Air Defense Command and Control Net (ADCCN).
  • Maintain situational awareness of the enemy air/ground threat. Assess available fighter and air defense missile assets and coordinate as necessary to obtain sufficient air defense resources.
  • Coordinate with tactical C2 elements (Control and Reporting Center [CRC], Airborne Warning and Control System [AWACS], JSTARS, E-2, Tactical Air Operations Center [TAOC], Red Crown) to obtain optimum radio and radar coverage and CAP manning.
  • Day-to-day air, space and cyberspace operations; assist with rapid reaction, positive control, coordination and de-confliction of weapons employment and integration of the total air, space and cyberspace effort.
  • Use of all-source intelligence and weather information to support air, space and cyberspace operations planning, execution and assessment.
  • Use of airspace control procedures and coordination of airspace control activities for the Airspace Control Authority (ACA) when the COMAFFOR/CFACC is designated as the ACA.
  • Assist with the direction, planning and execution of integrated air and missile defense (IAMD) for the Area Air Defense Commander (AADC).
  • Assist with the planning, tasking and the execution of the theater Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) mission.
  • Assist with operational-level assessments to determine mission and overall air, space and cyberspace operations effectiveness as required by the Combined Forces Commander (CFC) to support the theater combat assessment effort.
  • Assist in the production and dissemination of an Air Tasking Order (ATO) and update with real-time changes.
  • Assist with the integration of inter-theater air mobility support into the theater air mobility operation.
  • Assist with the planning, execution and management of the multi-TDL network within the CFC’s area of responsibility (AOR).
  • Assist in the proper integration of the Battlefield Coordination Detachment (BCD). If BCD is not available, then support to the white cell is used.
  • Assist the Air Component Coordination Element (ACCE), as required.
  • Assist with the use of the theater Air Operations Directives (AOD) for the AOR and specific operation for which the unit is planning to deploy as the planning starting point. All air, space and cyberspace products are then modified using guidance from the Exercise Director and the Joint Operation Planning Process- Air.
  • If an AOR specific AOD is not used, help develop a notional AOD in accordance with MAJCOM guidance.
  • Assist with network architecture planning to ensure connectivity with appropriate exercise participants.
  • Assist with the production Joint Air Operations Plan (JAOP), AODs, Air Defense Plans (ADPs), Air Tasking Orders (ATOs), Airspace Control Orders (ACOs), Airlift Movement Tables (AMT), Special Instructions (SPINS), Rules of Engagement (ROE), Collection Management Plan (CMP), Communications Plan, Information Operations (IO) plan, the Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance (ISR) plan to facilitate the training audience’s training objectives, consistent with doctrine and theater directives.
  • The AOC RC may also assist with the production of the Master Air Attack Plan (MAAP) and Intelligence Summaries (INTSUM) to meet AF General Officer (GO) requirements.
  • Assist with proposal development, if necessary.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.
