This position collaborates with multiple units across the Development Team to help execute stewardship and donor relations tactics aimed at increasing donor retention, communicating gift impact, recognizing donors and deepening donors’ relationships with the zoo. This is a customer facing position that involves interaction with prospects and donors on the phone, email, and in-person.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Promote and execute effective and proactive stewardship and donor communication strategies.
  • Establish a strong voice that aligns with the zoo’s mission, fundraising priorities, and overall zoo messaging and branding.
  • Create, write, and edit development communications and stewardship pieces, including impact reporting, endowment reporting, and cover letters.
  • Maintain systems for appropriate stewardship for donors of five-hundred plus dollars ($500.00+).
  • Assist with the development of the annual stewardship plan, linking stewardship activities to strategic goals.
  • Serve as project coordinator for all donor recognition activities to create and implement systems to anticipate, schedule, track, and evaluate recognition projects.
  • Facilitate creation of donor lists and implementation of donor recognition elements. Ensure that donors are recognized accurately on grounds, in print and online, coordinating with frontline fundraisers and teams across the zoo when appropriate.
  • Coordinate the zoo’s Wild at Heart giving society, including execution of targeted stewardship activities, benefit fulfillment, and communications support.
  • Coordinate the honor/memorial program by serving as the primary contact to families wishing to honor loved ones at the zoo.
  • Coordinate with various departments around the zoo, keep records updated, and organize events around the installation of benches.
  • Coordinate and support Junior Philanthropists donor program.
  • Facilitate monthly stewardship email series and measure donor email effectiveness and engagement.
  • Support the Development Department leadership in administrative activities.
  • Safeguard the confidentiality of donor information at all times.
  • Maintain and adhere to policies around information gathering and sharing in accordance with professional ethics standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree and two (2) or more years’ related experience in development; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven project coordination skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks/requests under strict time constraints, and meet deadlines in a professional manner.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to audit work for accuracy and quality.
  • Experience writing key messages to multiple audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience in annual fund development and implementation, knowledge of fundraising principles and techniques, and direct mail appeals and newsletters.
  • Ability to work successfully both independently and in a team setting.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a specific ability to create donor solicitations, acknowledgements, and stewardship pieces such as engaging reports and donor profiles.
  • Capable of writing coherent and compelling messages and content for printed, electronic, and verbal script materials.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to form professional relationships and to communicate effectively, delivering exceptional customer service to a variety of stakeholders, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (especially Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Teams).
  • Ability to work a non-standard/flexible schedule, which may include weekends, evenings, and holidays.


PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge.
  • Knowledge of wildlife conservation issues.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position may be required to lift up to 35lbs. Reasonable accommodations may be made to perform essential functions.


WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to a typical office environment and/or outdoor weather
conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Pay: $26.39 per hour, plus benefits
