Senior Manager, Editorial and Social Media Marketing  

Description

The Senior Manager, Editorial and Social Media Marketing will help shape the vision, voice, and strategy of our editorial content. You will help to establish and implement our goal to connect filmmakers to film fans through content, while collaborating with the creative and social teams to develop editorial that will help continue the emotional connection that unites fans and the films they love.

 

You have a passion for movies, a thirst for innovation and enthusiasm to drive editorial storytelling to help lead the Academy to the center of the conversation about film from a global perspective. You will work with film industry leaders, writers, producers, curators, and content creators to ensure that our editorial publishing achieves its key perform metrics in the most effective and efficient way possible.

 

Reporting to the VP, Digital Marketing, you will be accountable for the oversight of day-to-day operations for our editorial platform A.Frame to develop content strategy, high-quality articles, videos, email newsletters, and more. As a leader of editorial, you will collaborate with the social team to oversee Twitter strategy and voice, develop content for podcasts and emerging platforms through the lens of A.Frame. This is a critical, creative, and strategic role that will help evolve the vision of the organization.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage editorial vision and strategy for the website A.Frame, that pushes forward growth, retention, discovery, revenue generation, and audience engagement.
  • Write 1-2 articles per week.
  • Provide technical expertise in curating and editing articles and social posts.
  • Create and manage editorial and content calendars, while collaborating with the social team to drive content engagement.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Manager, Social Media to develop Twitter voice and strategy and manage day to day distribution of content on social.
  • Build relationships with Academy members, filmmakers, freelance writers, and strategic partnerships to contribute to the creation of compelling content that meets ambitious growth goals without compromising creative integrity and organizational values.
  • Work closely with the Creative Director to ensure there is brand consistency with the organization.
  • Create, drive, and advocate for an editorial strategy that aligns with the organization’s mission, values, and goals.
  • Report on and use data to inform publishing strategy.
  • Oversee the creation and publication of quality content - including articles, videos, email newsletters - that has a distinct voice, informs and entertains audiences, and improves brand awareness for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
  • Ensure both written and video content is developed with the focus around growing audiences and external platforms through SEO, social and other distribution strategies.
  • Liaise with Communication team’s efforts to ensure alignment as our trusted editorial POV.
  • Develop messaging and style guide to create and streamline processes, while unifying editorial messaging across writers and contributors.
  • Work cross-functionally with other groups to develop compelling membership and film industry content.
 
Position Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 7+ years of editorial and digital content experience, including brainstorming and refining ideas and angles, writing and/or editing reported articles, and overseeing publishing of multimedia content.
  • Experience in journalism, entertainment media (marketing or editorial), or related field is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of film, filmmakers and the film industry globally are a must.
  • Proven performance in securing and conducting high profile interviews in meetings, at events, or on shoots and sets with talent, talent representation, entertainment industry artists and professionals.
  • Familiarity with video production and creating high-performance assets for social, and a willingness to learn these skills fast if needed.
  • Thorough understanding of social media landscape including Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, Twitter, TikTok, YouTube and live streaming platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience in content strategy, including writing project briefs and pitches for new initiatives, bringing them to life, and advocating for them with various stakeholders.
  • Significant SEO expertise, with an in-depth understanding of how to drive, track, and troubleshoot SEO performance both written and video content.
  • Fluent in content-related data and analysis through Google Analytics and Salesforce Marketing Cloud, with experience pulling and presenting performance reports, deriving actionable insights, telling compelling data stories to internal and external stakeholders, and monitoring and troubleshooting performance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally (including in remote work environments).
  • Deep understanding of how cultural trends form and the ability to anticipate and act on them.
