Description

The Business Development Engineer is responsible for growing profitable turnover through strategic business development of current and future product lines. The Business Development Engineer must identify and develop new programs that are a good fit for our manufacturing capabilities, technical expertise and that meet the corporate or divisional financial targets. The incumbent must manage the relationship between key internal and external stakeholders involved with developing, sourcing and launching new programs, as well as any ongoing improvements on existing production programs. The position will require technical expertise on the design, function and manufacturing processes pertinent to our products, up to date knowledge of market and technology trends, good business acumen, and general knowledge of component pricing and cost structure.

  1. Coordinates Research and Development, and Engineering within the organization, which is critical to executing the strategic sales initiative.

  1. Assist with developing and executing full strategic sales and marketing plans and programs for assigned business unit products to increase market share.

  1. Must have a 'team' approach when working with other business units and departments to incorporate company standards into daily operations to develop best practices.

  1. Directly works with technical counterparts at strategic accounts to gain understanding of market & technology trends and identifying these groups and engaging them to our business products.

  1. Ability to travel to promote various product lines, evaluate new account and/or customer opportunities, and attend key industry trade shows.

  1. Resolve issues that arise out of customer service or technical difficulties that customers or internal staff may encounter as a result of the partnership.

  1. Develop tactics to work within the complex workflows of strategic accounts with the ultimate goal of profitably growing our products.

  1. Assist with the general marketing responsibilities to achieve improved penetration within market segments and to increase product/brand awareness.

  1. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

  1. Cold call as appropriate within your brand to ensure you are building a robust sales pipeline and driving those leads to closure and follow up on new business opportunities and setting up sales & technical calls.

  1. Design, build, implement, and monitor metrics around performance of various marketing initiatives. These initiatives include interacting with internal staff to best communicate items, such as competitor intelligence. This also includes utilization of the marketing metrics to communicate and/or demonstrate methods to improve existing products, new product idea generation and strategy setting

  1. Monitor products, distribution, services and pricing of our products versus our competitors.

  1. Apply project management techniques and follow-up with the sales team, account managers and engineering team on regular basis to ensure deadlines are met.

  1. Manages assigned activities related to new business merger and/or acquisitions.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position is does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.

Travel

Travel is essential and required in this position. Required travel is approximately 15% - 25%

 
Position Requirements

Required Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, engineering or related degree

  1. A minimum of 3-5 years of marketing, product design, product development, or sales experience

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. Master’s degree in business, marketing, engineering or related degree

  1. 7-10 years’ experience in senior sales role
