Position Export Transportation Manager  
Description

Reporting to the Vice President of Non-Ferrous Marketing, the Export Transportation Manager is responsible for managing the team of employees tasked with shipping material from Alter facilities and 3rd party suppliers to various destinations around the world. The department arranges bookings with shipping lines/freight forwarders, arranges dray moves from inland rail ramps and ports, and handles paperwork both internal and external such as ocean bills of lading, invoices, packing lists.

Qualifications

  • College Degree preferred or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in export transportation dealing directly with shipping lines/freight forwarders, dray companies, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience negotiating freight rates with shipping lines/dray companies
  • Knowledge of Incoterms
  • Experience with forms of payment such as letters of credit, Documentary Presentation, etc.
  • Strong time management skills
  • Adaptability (material flows, container availability, dray availability are always changing)
  • Previous experience and ability to manage people (coaching, escalation resolution, etc.) and departmental workloads
  • Willingness to work extended hours when needed to ensure work is completed
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with all levels of the organization
  • Computer skills (Microsoft office, Outlook, etc.)
