Geneva College is a Christian liberal arts college in the reformed tradition located about 50 miles north of Pittsburgh. Founded in 1848 by the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America, Geneva has majors in both liberal arts and pre-professional programs, and offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees. Geneva's faculty provide a challenging education that prepares students for careers, for further education, and for life. In all fields of study, students are challenged to explore the implications of the Christian faith on their discipline. Geneva has approximately 1,350 students enrolled in its various programs taught by its faculty of nearly 70 members. The college seeks to prepare students to serve Christ and the world in all areas of society, including work, family, and the church. Geneva is a founding member of the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU).

Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Vice President of Information & Technology reports directly to the President and provides leadership to the college with responsibility for:

  • Mission Support: Discern and navigate the multi-faceted and distinct IT needs across campus units and functions.
  • IT Team: Lead and develop the college’s IT staff, including Infrastructure/Networks/Servers (3 staff members); Application Services (3 staff members); Technology Services/Help Desk (3 staff members + student workers); Mail/Print Services (4 staff members); Campus Safety/Security (Director + Part-time Officers)
  • IT Budget: Build operating and long-term capital budgets in IT that align with and contribute to institutional budget processes and priorities.
  • Academic Program: Lead the technology systems and components related to academics, from registration to classroom and online programs and program assessment (in collaboration with the Provost). Advise and support in-house online education programs.
  • Student Information System: Oversee the student information system (Jenzabar) including the range of associated IT products in use across the College. Lead system assessment.
  • Cybersecurity: Develop and maintain protocols and policies to protect the College from cyberattacks.
  • Institutional Tech & Data: Lead the Information Technology Operating Committee and oversee College data governance and data analytics working groups.
  • Automation & Partnerships: Identify and evaluate opportunities to automate regular College business functions including prospective vendor relationships.
  • Cloud Strategy: Establish cloud strategy for data storage and backup, including determining the impact on operating and capital budgets.
  • Compliance: Responsible for compliance with all applicable information security laws and regulations, including, but not limited to identity theft (red flag), privacy (FERPA, HIPAA, GLBA, etc.), and consumer protection (PCI).

 

As a member of the President’s Cabinet, the Vice President provides counsel to the President and collaborates with other executive officers to develop and implement strategies that support and enhance the mission and vision of Geneva College, as well as exhibits behavior consistent with Geneva’s core values and standards of conduct.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:

Required: The Vice President of Information & Technology will be a knowledgeable professional with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree pertinent to the role and five years of professional technology leadership experience. Preferred: Experience in Christian higher education, advanced degree, executive level leadership experience. In addition to these basic qualifications, the next Vice President will be:

  • A person of authentic Christian character and conversant in the college’s Reformed confession and heritage, evidenced in:
    • A deep commitment to Jesus Christ and His word, resulting in a mature Christian walk,
    • Prayerful dependence on God’s provision and the guidance of the Holy Spirit,
    • An understanding and application of biblical principles for the stewardship of time, talent and treasure, with faithful service and follow-through on commitments.
  • A gifted leader who:
    • Earns respect and establishes rapport with colleagues, students and their families and external constituents,
    • Encourages their teams and team members to adopt best practices, maintain high standards and reach ambitious goals,
    • Inspires their teams and team members to accomplish their work with excellence, integrity and a sense of mission,
    • Presents the mission of Geneva College winsomely and articulates the value of a liberal arts education within the college’s Reformed confession and heritage,
    • Thinks strategically and creatively, and makes and communicates difficult decisions firmly, yet graciously in a God-honoring way.
  • A competent team member who:
    • Portrays an internal energy and work ethic,
    • Possesses excellent writing skills and strong verbal communication skills in large and small group settings, including the ability to persuade and to listen patiently in personal conversations,
    • Works with a level of cultural intelligence well suited to Geneva’s openness to students of any race and faith, to build a student body that reflects the membership of every nation and tribe and people and language in the Kingdom of Christ.
