About the Organization Established June 15, 1971, Valley Community Services Board is a publicly funded organization where citizens of Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta and Highland Counties can receive Behavioral Health, Substance Use and Developmental Services services. Valley Community Services Board serves as the single point of entry into publicly funded mental health, developmental, and substance use disorder services for these localities.

Description

Valley Community Services Board is seeking licensed, or licensed-eligible clinicians to provide clinical intakes, group therapy, assessment and diagnosis, individual, group and family counseling, crisis intervention and stabilization.

Summary of Essential Functions:

  • Conducts intake assessments for clients seeking services related to mental health, substance use, or developmental needs.
  • Assists with referral caseload monitoring for outpatient program services.
  • Provides crisis stabilization and emergency services as needed.
  • Conducts mental health and substance abuse evaluations, including the evaluation of treatment needs, and develops treatment plans.
  • Provides client orientation and incorporates crisis intervention and stabilization as needed.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills in the areas of crisis and counseling interventions, case management, treatment of co-occurring disorders, treatment and discharge planning.
  • Strong clinical assessment skills as well as sound judgement, effective communication and time management skills are required.  

 

 
Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Principles and practices of individual, family, and group psychotherapy.
  • Mental health and substance use services for adults and their families.
  • Emergency services and crisis intervention.
  • Requirements for clinical casework documentation.
  • Etiology and treatment of mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorder.

Skills Pertaining to:

  • Sound judgement.
  • Critical thinking.
  • Conflict resolution.
  • Crisis intervention.
  • Clinical assessment.
  • Pre-screening.
  • Psychotherapeutic intervention with adults, couples, families in individual and group settings.
  • Written, oral, and interpersonal communication.

Ability to:

  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Assess client outcomes.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with individuals receiving services, their families, and their support network.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with teammates and external partners.
  • Prioritize competing demands to effectively manage a varying workload.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in counseling, social work, or related field.
  • LPC- or LCSW-eligible.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current LCSW, LPC, LSATP, or CSAC certification.
