Desktop Support Technician 

Location Corporate Headquarters

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Performs daily maintenance on the system as needed, including but not limited to:

    • Check network and local backups.
    • Check anti-virus servers.
    • Check SQL tasks. Manually run any tasks as needed.
    • Check backups replicated and copied to external systems and local hard drives. Local backups are for Instrumentation.



  • Ensure all client computers are up to date with patches and working well.
  • As scheduled/directed, reboot servers after patching them. Verify that all necessary services are up and running.
  • Run performance scans on VM host servers and well as all VM guests and store to start comparing trends and being proactive about server space and over utilization of resources.
  • Ensure adequate server logs and disk space on servers (DC, DFS, Exchange, Citrix, SQL etc.).
  • Verify anti-virus software is up to date.
  • Use Spiceworks incident ticketing system to identify track and resolve helpdesk issues. Keep incident ticket status current while providing detailed documentation of all work and escalating as necessary to IT administration.
  • Perform onsite and/or remote diagnosis and resolution of hardware, software, networking, and systems client issues. Recommend and implement corrective measures for repairs as deemed necessary.
  • Provide on-site & remote end-user desktop support for a Windows environment including Microsoft’s core business applications, operating systems, Citrix applications, and virus protection.
  • Assist in maintaining all user access and operational functions of printers and scanners ensuring they are properly toner supplied/serviced as necessary.
  • Assists in managing user profiles in Active Directory, LabWare and CertLabLINK and keycard access (adding, deleting, changing, and auditing)
  • Investigate and troubleshoot application, operating system and peripheral errors
  • Set up desktop, laptop, and peripheral installation
  • Assist in onboarding processes of new employees and all steps of termination relative to building, equipment and software access and set-up.
  • Assist Users in moves, relocating of desktops, laptops, and peripherals
  • Maintain an IT inventory of equipment (computers, printers, phones etc.) for all sites.
  • Stay current with system information, changes and updates.
  • Other IT related duties as required.


Position Requirements


  • 3+ Years of IT support experience, Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology Preferred
  • Advanced understanding of Windows 7 and 10 operating systems, printing systems, and network systems.
  • Microsoft Office 365, and Outlook email account support/management
  • Interpersonal skills: telephony skills, communication skills, active listening and customer-care.
  • Diagnosis skills of Computer hardware and software technical issues.
  • Understanding of support tools, techniques, and how technology is used to provide services.
  • Typing skills to ensure quick and accurate entry of service request details.
  • Experience in the installation, configuration, and administration of LANs, wireless network along with other basic networking principles
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Participate in after hour support
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008/2012/2016, Virtualization, Active Directory, Microsoft SQL Server 2012
  • Understanding of networking concepts: TCP/IP, LAN/WAN, DHCP, DNS, Routing, Switching and Firewalls
  • Experience deploying networks including Cable/DSL/FIOS modems, firewalls, hardware and software VPN clients
  • Email and spam troubleshooting
  • Building Workstations
  • Data backup and recovery
  • Experience troubleshooting Virus and their removal.
