The Position:

The FSS Director is responsible for:

  1. Providing leadership and support for FSA in carrying out its mission, specifically in the areas of strategy, policy, evidence-based practice, quality control, and the development and implementation of Family Support initiatives.
  2. Providing oversight of FSA's Family Support Services. This includes leadership and coordination for all Family Support Services, and direct supervision of South County and Lompoc services, as well as countywide contracts.

Duties include providing program direction, staff supervision, contract and budget management, program evaluation, ensuring program activities are trauma-informed and culturally responsive, and providing support to FSA's fundraising and marketing activities. The position directly supervises staff and reports to the Executive Director.

Working with those impacted by trauma can be fulfilling and meaningful, yet simultaneously challenging, requiring attention to one's self-care. FSA strives to be a trauma-informed and resilience-oriented organization, actively identifying and employing methods to support staff to embody a healthy and sustainable balance of care for others and themselves.

Sample Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Agency Leadership

  1. Provide leadership and support for FSA in carrying out its mission, specifically in the areas of strategy, policy, evidence-based practice, outcomes evaluation and associated training and support for staff.
  2. Assist with the development and implementation of Family Support initiatives.
  3. Provide guidance and support on agency and service policy, practice and quality control. Help ensure consistency across the agency.
  4. Participate as a member of the Leadership Team in the development and implementation of strategic goals and objectives, agency budget, agency-wide policies, and programs that will contribute to the Agency's overall success.
  5. Attend Board, Finance, Development, Program, and other Board-related meetings as requested by the Executive Director.

Program Oversight

  1. Provide oversight of FSA's Family Support Services. This includes leadership and coordination for all Family Support Services, and direct supervision of South County and Lompoc services, as well as countywide contracts.
  2. Direct services, and identify opportunities for program expansion and growth.
  3. Develop and manage the program budget.
  4. Oversee quality controls for the program, including monitoring program outcomes, evaluating program effectiveness, ensuring program activities are trauma-informed and culturally responsive, ensuring the quality and integrity of services.
  5. Stay current with research in the field, including evidence-based practices and effective interventions in the communities FSA serves.
  6. Contract management and compliance, and reporting of program data and outcomes to funders.
  7. Hire, train and supervise staff.
 
Position Requirements

Employment Standards:

  1. BA required, MA preferred in social work, child development, public administration, business or related field.
  2. Experience in program management, development, budget operations and oversight, staff supervision, data tracking and analysis.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to utilize research information; demonstrated understanding of public policy.
  4. Familiarity with community resources and knowledge of early education and childhood development .
  5. Experience in public speaking.
  6. Computer and Internet literacy, and excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  7. Proficient in Microsoft Office; can adapt to using various types of software.
  8. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  9. Valid automobile insurance and a valid California Driver License are required.
  10. Reliable transportation is necessary to travel throughout Santa Barbara County.

Classification, Hours and Pay Rate:

  • This is a full-time position, exempt, with benefits. (Benefits include: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, flexible spending accounts and 403(b) retirement plan. Vacation, holiday and sick leave also offered.)
