Manager, Foundation and Government Relations 


The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures advances the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, screenings, programs, initiatives, and collections. Welcoming visitors from Los Angeles and around the world, the museum works in active partnership with motion picture artists and specialists, scholars, staff, and diverse communities to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema, inspiring discourse, connection, joy, and discovery.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Foundation and Government Relations, you will be responsible for a portfolio of annual funding initiatives. This includes the Academy Museum’s education programs and film screenings, Academy Gold, the Academy Foundation’s year-round internship, and mentorship program. You will work to help build a strong sustainable grants program for the new Academy Museum, as well as support the preservation, public education, and inclusion initiatives of the Margaret Herrick Library, Academy Film Archive, Academy Gold, and other Academy Foundation programs.

You Will:

  • Cultivate and maintain a portfolio of new and renewing annual requests.
  • Develop and establish new philanthropic partnerships.
  • Work alongside the Specialist, Foundation and Government Relations and simultaneously across multiple Academy departments.
  • Work with education and program staff, both collaboratively and independently, to create compelling funding requests in support of programming initiatives.
  • Draft proposal narratives, letters of inquiry, and visual work samples, as well as prepare grant applications for submission.
  • Sustain an active stewardship program.
  • Accurately track and reconcile project budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with grant agreements, which includes reporting, donor recognition, and correspondence.
  • Research and identify private and corporate foundation and government funders.
  • Maintain database entries.
  • Support special events.
Position Requirements

You Have:

  • A bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years of grant writing or K-12 or higher education program experience.
  • Experience communicating effectively and clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • A positive, collaborative, flexible, and strategic nature.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion.
  • A detail-oriented focus with the ability to succeed in a high-profile, deadline-driven work environment with multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Salesforce or similar database; moving image editing and graphic design experience helpful.
  • Ability to work some evening and weekend hours.
