Senior Java Software Engineer  

Description

The Internal Payroll team is responsible for supporting and implementing changes within the internal Paychex payroll offering which is the foundation for the Paychex online/mobile payroll solution as well as many other applications. We leverage a wide variety of technologies such as Java, JBoss, Jenkins, OpenShift, Docker, Oracle, Spring Boot, Kafka, MongoDB, and S3 Object Storage within our application. We collaborate closely with our Product and Operations partners to determine how to best design a solution for each business opportunity. Our agile environment consists of multiple agile teams working in two week sprints. Software is released on a consistent release schedule (every 2-3 weeks), allowing for frequent content delivery to our customers.

  • Performs basic analysis and design for program changes to gain an understanding of application changes.
  • Provides time estimates for development tasks to aid in scheduling. Monitors progress against task estimates to provide status.
  • Completes more complex program changes to translate specifications and / or requirements into code.
  • Applies application specific technical skills to independently produce deliverables (i.e. specifications, program changes, unit test scripts, documentation, etc.).
  • Acquires and utilizes basic business knowledge to support the applications.
  • Recognizes code inefficiencies and makes suggestions for improvements, if applicable.
  • Provides documentation to support program changes.
  • Plans, documents, and executes unit test plans to ensure all code changes meet requirements / specifications.
  • Supports programming changes during quality assurance, user acceptance testing, and post implementation to ensure integrity of application.
  • Complies with and contributes to standards and procedures to ensure development consistency (e.g. programming standards, change management, version control).

Position Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree Computer related discipline or equivalent work experience
  • 5 years of experience in Related field
  • Experience using one or more programming language(s)
  • SQL/Database experience a plus
