The Community Outreach Manager will be a representative for EMPOWER locations to connect with people in the larger community. The Community Outreach Manager will be a valuable resource for the community to gain awareness, education, and knowledge of services available. This position is also responsible for identifying additional community needs for services and providing customer service support to the EMPOWER program members. This position will provide supports through outreach, education, recruitment, and other tools to EMPOWER leadership. This position participates in the development of long-range program planning and innovative changes to the program, providing input and suggestions as opportunities arise.

  • Represents program to parents, participants, potential staff, staff, stakeholders, etc.
  • Manages public relations duties to include representing programs to the public and promoting financial support, growth, and sustainability for the program.
  • Manages outreach activities and special events including open houses, community education, Sensitive Santa, etc., and assists in finding community events for weekend respite opportunities. This includes creating, scheduling, organizing, and promoting these activities.
  • Organizes and plans workshops and programs for parents/guardians.
  • Manages meetings and develops active partnerships with community leaders and service groups. Attends and presents at meetings for different organizations within the community including Parent Advisory Board, local Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, School Open Houses, IEP meetings, Parks and Rec, etc.
  • Assists with creation and maintenance of marketing materials in conjunction with Easterseals UCP marketing department and EMPOWER Director including flyers, brochures, and monthly newsletter.
  • Works with Easterseals UCP marketing team to communicate with consumers, donors, and the media to represent the organization. This includes press releases, social media, email campaigns, and attending community events.
  • Provides updates, pictures, education, marketing, and postings on approved social media accounts following policies and protocols for permissions of Easterseals UCP and with input from EMPOWER Director.
  • Manages marketing/community outreach supply inventory and ordering, within appropriate budgets. Provides give-a-ways to potential participants, community partners, etc. to develop relationships during outreach events.
  • Collaborate with team to establish locations for food truck vending, internships, volunteering, and micro-enterprise experiences for participants.
  • Monitors community needs and reports to EMPOWER Director.
  • Develops clubs and other enrichment opportunities within programs. This could include organizing music therapy, staff certifications for activities such as yoga, Best Buddies, and other organizations as deemed appropriate by the EMPOWER Director.
  • Develops and implements fundraising activities and creates strategic relationships with donors.
  • Encourages donations and keeps record of monetary and in-kind donations while ensuring thank you notes are sent to donors, as well as a social media recognition as appropriate.
  • Maintains adequate records (financial and otherwise) including fundraising, marketing expenses, etc.
  • Supports Talent Acquisition with the recruitment of volunteers, employees, and participants.
  • Develops connections with local universities, schools, and community colleges to recruit staff, interns, and volunteers. This may include Recreational Therapy Interns, Special Education Interns, etc.
  • Protects the rights of those persons served and supports the right to dignity, humane care, and freedom from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and mistreatment.
  • Follows and assures compliance with all Easter Seals Policies and Procedures.
  • Maintains regular attendance and punctuality, manages the use of PTO time, and follows all policies and procedures regarding time off.
  • Must demonstrate Easter Seals valued behaviors of Accountability, Commitment, and Caring as appropriate to the position.
  • Must maintain compliance with all training requirements for self.
Position Requirements


  • A bachelor's degree in marketing, communication, journalism, public relations, or related field.
  • Preferred experience of 2 or more years within non-profit fundraising or outreach activities.
  • Experience with budget management preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in exercising independent judgment.
  • Industry knowledge of developmental disabilities.
  • Must have a valid, unrestricted, state-appropriate driver’s license and personal vehicle insurance.

  • Verbal and written communication skills to inform and persuade donors, the media and people in the community of the organization’s purpose.
  • Verbal and written communication skills to communicate goals to EMPOWER Director, stakeholders, and coworkers.
  • Skills necessary to coordinate professional presentations to community groups on educational topics.
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Good reporting, technical, and statistical skills.
  • Ability to observe and assess the effectiveness of tasks and activities and adjust as necessary.
  • Project management skills to manage timelines, schedule other people, and coordinate locations and vendors for events.
  • Ability to multitask with several project details at once.
