Our ever-growing EMPOWER Program has a brand new location in Morehead City. WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

The Director of Afterschool, Summer Camp & Transition to Employment, is responsible for the overall operation of all phases of the program. This position is responsible for ensuring best practices, supports based on the personal outcomes of the individual and/or family, compliance with all state, federal, and agency standards as required for assigned services. Along with the Program Director, this position participates in the development of long-range program planning and innovative changes to the program, providing input and suggestions as opportunities arise. This position has direct supervision of the Activities Coordinator, Transition Coordinator, Administrative Assistant, Service Coordinator, Recreation Paraprofessionals, and Transition Coaches.

  • Provides direct leadership, supervision, and total administration of these programs in all areas, following Easter Seals policies, procedures, and contract requirements.
  • Represents program to parents, participants, potential staff, staff, stakeholders, etc.
  • Hires, trains, coaches, disciplines, and works to retain qualified staff for services within their assigned area.
  • Responsible for ongoing supervision, including annual performance reviews, of direct care para-professionals.
  • Assures compliance and ongoing maintenance for staff's position requirements, training, health requirements, and employee files.
  • Supervises the safe and therapeutic recreation and Transition to Employment activities of the program.
  • Promotes positive team and employee interaction and communication.
  • Recruits, accepts, and supervises, directly and indirectly, all programs participants.
  • Makes all correspondence relative to programs in a timely manner and revises all forms and other written materials as needed.
  • Helps to develop program publicity and disseminates information.
  • Plans and leads Advisory Groups.
  • Performs public relation duties to include representing programs to the public and promoting financial support for program.
  • Develops fundraising goals and implements fundraising activities.
  • Assures oversight of medication management and the routine administration of approved medications.
  • Develops and leads appropriate crisis response for any emergency, i.e. health or medically related, or an environmental emergency.
  • Ensures emergency preparedness drills happen as required.
  • Develops and enforces appropriate program policies and procedures.
  • Supervises all foodservice and maintenance with particular attention to the proper maintenance of equipment, facilities, and buildings.
  • Maintains adequate records (financial and otherwise) on all programs.
  • Keeps up with all supply inventory and ordering, within appropriate budgets.
  • Performs ongoing evaluation of all programs, implementing corrective action as needed to improve operations considering participant needs/interests and with special regard to emerging rehabilitation or therapeutic philosophies as they apply to the program philosophy.
  • Protects the rights of those persons served and supports the right to dignity, humane care, and freedom from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and mistreatment.
  • Follows and assures compliance with all Easter Seals Policies and Procedures.
  • Must demonstrate Easter Seals valued behaviors of Accountability, Commitment, and Caring as appropriate to the position.
  • Must maintain compliance with all training requirements for self and staff.
  • Duties may be added or changed to meet the needs of the program.
  • Supervisory Responsibility: Oversight of the programs’ staff, interns, and volunteers, including but not limited to: recruitment, screening, hiring, training, and supervision.

Position Requirements

YOU’RE A GREAT MATCH FOR OUR TEAM IF YOU HAVE:

  • Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by an entity approved by USDOE or CHEA in therapeutic recreation (CTRS desirable), recreation, special education, adapted physical education or related field.
  • A minimum of 2 years of administrative or supervisory experience in an inclusive setting required.
  • Must have a valid, unrestricted, state appropriate driver’s license and personal vehicle insurance.
  • Extensive practical knowledge, skills, and experience in therapeutic programming and personal care assistance with populations of persons with physical and/or cognitive disabilities.
  • Exceptional skills in personnel supervision, interpersonal relationships, discipline, training, and leadership.
  • Experience in and ability to train staff in caretaking and counselor skills.
  • Ability to observe participant and staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures.
  • Ability to supervise and communicate effectively with staff members in order to achieve a beneficial and therapeutic program.
  • Confidently observe and assess staff performance.
  • Successfully identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
  • Ability to analyze and provide assistance with activity and personnel problem areas.
