JOB SUMMARY:

  • A registered professional nurse who is responsible for overall administrative oversight for the organization, including the coordination of delivery of patient care on assigned shifts.
  • Provides leadership, supervision and direction for all personnel on duty to promote efficiency, productivity and quality care/services.
  • Maintains standards of professional nursing, promotes collaboration among disciplines.
  • Performs duties and responsibilities in a quality manner adhering to all hospital policies and procedures and management competencies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EXPECTED BEHAVIORS:

  • Associate can deliver care/service appropriate to patients/customers.
  • Collaborates with and delegates to other health team members for effective coordination of patient care.
  • Makes rounds of the facility to assess efficiency of operations and to provide support/direction as needed.
  • Communicates pertinent information to appropriate persons in concise and timely manner.
  • Informs Team Leader and/or Vice President of Nursing and Quality Resources, or administrator on call of needs, problems and/or unusual events.
  • Investigates and reports complaints, taking appropriate action to resolve issues.
  • Serves as representative of management in providing onsite supervision of associates, communicating with them regarding their professional and personal conduct as it relates to the efficient operation of the organization.
  • Communicates to the appropriate Team Leader in a timely manner regarding problems or concerns with staff performance or department.
  • Supervises associates in absence of management and communicates with them regarding their professional and personal conduct as it relates to the efficient operation of the organization.
  • Communicates with Charge Nurses/supervisory staff to obtain a verbal update on unit/patient status. Initiates disaster response (Code Orange, Yellow, etc.) as appropriate to situation.
  • Evaluates operational issues, makes recommendations regarding individual units, departments and organizational levels to promote cost-effective quality care and hospital operations.
  • Recognizes situations when non-productive time is occurring and intervenes to eliminate situation, adjusting staffing levels and assigned tasks.
  • Acts as a support to patient care units as needed.
  • Serves as a resource for interpreting hospital policy, state law and other regulatory requirements as related to hospital operations.
  • Serves as a resource to all staff on duty.
  • Serves as role model and mentor to associates to promote clinical/professional growth and development.
  • Serves as a change agent and promotes implementation strategies in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Serves as resource to associates in the development of conflict management, delegation and communication skills.
  • Demonstrates accountability for personal and professional growth through the pursuit of advanced knowledge and skills.
  • Observes department operations, including clinical practice, recommending process improvements to the appropriate Team Leader.
  • Conducts interaction with patients, visitors, physicians, and all associates in a manner consistent with the intent of the hospital’s mission, vision and values.
  • Assures that care is delivered in a compassionate, non-judgmental manner that respects the rights of the individual, physicians and colleagues to privacy, dignity, respect and confidentiality at all times.
  • Assures that staff interacts with patient/families in a professional and compassionate manner.
  • Monitors/analyzes patient satisfaction and other customer feedback data and recommends improvements to improve customer satisfaction.
  • Acts as a role model in patient advocacy and effective conflict resolution strategies.
  • Interacts with associates in a manner that maintains associate’s right to confidentiality.
  • Ensures patient confidentiality is maintained.
  • Advocates “Patients First” and consistently role models these behaviors.
 
Position Requirements

CERTITICATION/LICENSE: Registered Nurse (RN)

ADDITIONAL LICENSURE/CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse with the state of Indiana Health Professions Bureau.
  • Minimum three years’ experience as Charge Nurse/Manager.
  • Participates in Basic Life Support training per the American Heart Association.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support required.

ADDITIONAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Mandatory Continuing Education: Customer Service, Fire and Safety, Corporate Compliance (including Confidentiality), Infection Control, and education required by regulatory, accreditation bodies, scope of practice, and/or Hancock Regional Hospital.
